I tiried to sell my two HR10-250 Directivo's a while back and had no bidders. They are useless at this point. can they be made into external storage?

Yes, but it is not terribly easy, and not terribly worth it.

The best you can do is toss the drive itself in a USB or NAS case.

I've been watching HR10 auctions for a while, and the only ones I've seen not sell were ones with a high reserve price.

If you've got the remote and all the cables, it will likely bring at least #50, maybe even up to near $100.

If you want storage, I'd try selling again. You're almost certain to get enough to buy a new 250GB drive, rather than trusting data to a several years old, heavily used drive.

some might argue that the drive with the non-stop track record is a better bet than the untested drive in the box.

Well, no, age definitely takes a toll on drives. It's pretty rare to have a drive that's bad out of the box.

some would say that drives are more likely to fail right out of the box then any other time in their lives.
