I have 2 series 2 Tivos right now, both have lifetime accounts
We are getting a flat panel tv in a month or so.
Thinking about the options.
1. Keep the 2 Tivos, add a time warner DVR on the flat panel
2. Buy a Tivo HD, move a lifetime subscription to the new box
3. Buy a Tivo HD with lifetime, total of 3 in the house (only really need 2)
Here's the questions:
In option 2, can I still get music in the non-suscription box? I know I lose the program guide, but I could use it to record manually, like a VCR
In option 2 or 3, can I move shows (non HD) between a series 2 and an HD?
Can I get pictures, movies and music on the HD box as well?

In option 2, can I still get music in the non-suscription box? I know I lose the program guide, but I could use it to record manually, like a VCR? No - your Series2 will quit working w/o a subscription. (You can still watch existing recordings, but cannot record new ones.)
In option 2 or 3, can I move shows (non HD) between a series 2 and an HD?Yes, you can use MRV as long as the boxes have a subscription. (Once moved, you could cancel or transfer the sub on the one you no longer want to use.)
Can I get pictures, movies and music on the HD box as well? You can get everything TiVo is capable of as well as what it's affiliates have to offer on a TiVo HD or Series3.
WARNING: Once you go HD you will never go back. ;) Once you go with an HD TiVo you can never go back to a POS cableco DVR. :D

I recently made a similar move for the family. We've had 2 flat panels for quite some time, but I couldn't justify the cost of upgrading to TiVoHDs in my own mind. Tried the cable co DVR and found it very limited in functionality and available space (20 hrs of HD, come on!). Finally got what I wanted under $200/box. I got two TiVoHDs from Woot. Here's what I've done with my two outdated S2 boxes:
Before I hooked up the new boxes, I put one S2 in the guest bedroom for when family members visit. I loaded it with Disney movies and Home and Garden programs (which is what they typically watch). They can watch live TV or choose from the Now Playing. I then transferred that subscription to one of the new boxes, keeping the $6.95/mo rate.
My other S2 (Humax) isn't really needed anymore (because as Rich says, once you start watching HD you'll never go back). It has Lifetime on it, though. So I've started to load it up with old family movies, transferred from my PC. I subbed the 2nd new box at $9.95/month. When family members visit for holidays we can watch the ghosts of Christmas Past, etc. :)
Hope that gives you some ideas...
