I've been having a recurring issue with Tivo Desktop Plus ever since I purchased it. I am running Tivo Desktop Plus v. 2.61 on Windows XP. I have 2 Tivo's - a series 2 and an HD Tivo. Both Tivos are running version 9.3 of the Tivo Software.

The issue I am having is with downloading video podcasts. When I first installed Tivo Desktop Plus the video podcast option worked great. Then after a few days it just stopped downloading the podcasts. I checked my firewall, rebooted my computer and even rebooted the tivos. When I go to download a podcast I get the following error:

"Your PC has not connected to the TiVo Service in 24 hours. Your request has been confirmed, but to receive this episode, your PC must connect to the TiVo Service. To connect to the tivo service, make sure the PC is powered on and logged-in, and connected to the Internet. Connections happen automatically. If your PC does not connect to the Tivo Service, this episode will not appear in the Now Playing List."

Although the Podcasts aren't downloading, everything else related to the Tivo Desktop software is working fine: Video and music stored on my computer are visible from both Tivo's. The Tivo Desktop Program can transfer recordings to and from both of the Tivos.

Uninstalling and then Reinstalling Tivo Desktop Plus solves the problem, but ONLY for a few days, then the issue arises again. My issue is that every time I reinstall Tivo Desktop Plus I have to go into each to and setup the season passes for the video podcasts again.

My PC is hard-wired into my router and has no problems whatsoever connecting to the internet. My Desktop Plus software works perfectly EXCEPT for the Podcasts. This tells me that it isn't a firewall/router problem.

I called Tivo Support, and they were pretty clueless. After speaking with 3 different representatives they basically said it "might be something on my computer" but they couldn't give me any specifics.

I did see the post a few weeks ago about installing Windows Messenger (I don't see the correlation). I tried it and the problem is still happening.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Currently, the TiVo server that coordinates the web downloads (mind.tivo.com) is extremely flaky. It was unreachable for several days, came up yesterday and today, and is now down again. If desktop can't talk to mind, then it can't update web subscriptions.

If you can open TiVo Desktop, and successfully execute File : Link to my TiVo account, you should start receiving web videos.

Hopefully hbsprite got this worked out, but I've never gotten any of the 'new' podcasts to download to either my TivoHD or S2DT. I'm running TD 2.6.1, have a valid TD Plus key, and have linked to my Tivo account, but for as long as I've tried (last several weeks), I've never gotten any of the new podcasts to download.

I keep getting the stupid "Your PC has not connected to the TiVo Service in 24 hours" message. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, etc. but nothing works. Anyone know what else I could check?

I have not worked it out. The only way to fix is to open the tivo desktop application and redo the "link to my tivo account" option. This of course, erases any season passes I have set up for the podcast downlads. This seems to fix the issue for a week at most and then I must repeat. I contacted Tivo and they basically said "not our problem".

Tivo sucks at delivering web content. That's why I've moved to the RSS feeds and Tivo desktop's ability to push them to the Tivo for everything I'm interested in. It's still not a perfect system, but it's more reliable than getting them through Tivo.

What application do you use on your desktop to pull in the RSS feeds?

iTunes - I've never bothered with an RSS reader before and iTunes was already on my PC. If there's something that's better, I'm open, but i haven't had any problems with iTunes.

I really want this feature to work. :( I'm currently using pytivo to transfer my video over, but I like the idea of everything going in it's own folder and downloading automatically with descriptions and titles.

I set up season passes for web video, but they only work for about a week and then I have to redo the link in the Tivo Desktop software, which wipes out the season passes.

Does anyone have an idea to try, or do i just need to give up and transfer manually?

Thanks!
Robb

I'm having this same issue (as I'm sure many people are). This is a *real* issue that Tivo needs to address. Why has Tivo not looked into and resolved this issue already?

Even though I had given up on this and started using itunes for everything I want, I just had to test it out after reading this thread again.

Of course I got the "your PC has not connected in 24 hours" message with the first try. So I go to my PC and link it to my account again and give it some time. I go back and try another download and it looks like everything will work (no "your PC has not connected in 24 hours"), but nothing happens. i try a couple more and still nothing happens. I try on another Tivo and again everything looks OK, but nothing happens. The recording history on each tivo was checked and they have nothing regarding these download attempts.

this used to work for about a week before it puked. Then it would only work for a couple of days. Now it doesn't work at all.

Bravo! Nice job TiVo.

Bravo! Nice job TiVo.I had the same error message about a week after first installing 2.6.1. The only way I was able to resolve the issue was to use the TiVo Desktop cleaner utility and then reinstall TiVo Desktop from scratch. After the cleaning, it worked again and now I consistently get my web downloads that are set up as Season Passes.

I don't what's wrong w/mine. I've wiped out (w/the Tivo cleaner) and reinstalled 2.6.1 and re-linked to my account. I re-setup my season passes and everything worked great long enough for all my season passes to download a few shows. A few day later I'm getting the "24 hours" message again. I think I'm going to note my public IP address and see if it's changing and maybe that's the culprit.
