We've just moved cross country from California to NY and took our DVR receivers with us. We had two Directv/Tivo receivers hooked up to a dual LNB dish/multiswitch setup. Currently we're waiting for our new house to close- when we get there I may be forced to call directv and upgrade (ewww, no more tivo!) as I think he's got an HD dish up there already.

However, for now we are stuck at a rental house that has a regular dish with a single LNB. We hooked up one of the DVR's to the dish using only one LNB connector and reran satellite setup to tell it round dish, one lnb, etc and verified good signal. We tried with both the old and new zip codes.

However, we are still getting lots of blank recordings and missed recordings as it seems the receiver is confused as to what channel is where and times are all wonky. Do I need to call directv to make this work? I was hoping to just get by with one feed and one dvr until the new house closes and I didn't want to negotiate with directv just yet.

You will have to remove all the local channels from Channels You Receive as they'll be wrong and there's nothing you can do until you notify DirecTV that you have moved. The national channels should work fine.

If you are referring to the 5LNB dish, you can still use your DTivos with it. I have 3 that are connected to it and they work just fine. Go through the guided setup and tell it you have a 3LNB.

So if I just do a simple address change with directv will that be enough for them to make the locals work? I am not sure that's entirely the problem as hubby reports things like CNBC also being flaky and showing no video when the satellite signal is at 100%..

I figure that if I can use these with the HDTV dish at the new house will just do that until they die and/or I get a new TV. I've been a customer of DTV for a very very long time so I want free stuff to renew if I decide to. :P

If you tell DirecTV you have moved, they will send authorization to your receivers for the new locals. CNBC is a national channel so that's a different issue.

You are supposed to tell DirecTV anytime you move the receivers. The physical location address is your service address and can be different than your billing address.

When you get a final location you can then move everthing (service and billing) to the new house.
