View Full Version : Hughes HDVR2 Dead - Will DTV Protection Plan Give Me Options?

Hi All...

My Hughes HDDVR2 just died... It's been sitting at the DTV splash screen with the words "Almost there. Just a few minutes more..." overnight (so in excess of 8 hours)...

Here's my dilemma... I really don't want to replace it with another SD box... I currently have 1 HD-DVR, and 2 SD TiVos and have been itching to replace one of my SD TiVos for an additional High Def DVR...

Will DirecTV protection plan allow me to pay a little more to secure an HD DVR in it's place?

My guess is that the receiver is actually find, but the drive or drives are bad... I am not itching to replace them... As you can see in my signature, both my SD TiVos are upgraded with dual 120GB drives... If I send the "defective" receiver back, I will put the original drive back in, and my guess is that it will work fine... And in all honesty, if I return any of my SD TiVo's, I would rather return the Sony... I love the Sony and have a lot of fond memories with it being my first experience with TiVo, but it's lack of folder support sucks...

<sigh>... Any experience here? Any guidance or advice?

Most likely you'll be offered an R15/R16 SD DVR as a no-cost replacement under the protection plan. You might be offered a sweet deal on a HD DVR "upgrade", but you'll need to call and ask.
