I have been reading some posts about Distant Stations being removed. The most immediate stuff appears to be for HD customers, which I am not. However, from what I read, it looked like all of us were going to loose them eventually.

The channels that I am concerned about on Direct TV are:

380, 381,382,383, 386, 387, 388, 389

Besides the fact that where I live, I can not receive even a single broadcast channel or cable, I particularly enjoy receiving both east and west feeds. I have more flexible options for recording my favorite shows.

I like Direct TV for the most part and I like my Tivo. If I have to switch to the Direct TV PVR or switch to Dish or another provider to get those channels I would.

If the distant feeds do stay on Direct TV, but are only broadcast in HD in MPEG4, should I change over to a new receiver now? Or am I going to loose these channels no matter what?

Do I have to start purchasing my favorite shows from iTunes just so I can watch them?

What alternatives do I have?

Thanks,

Kirk

I don't know for sure, but I think all that talk was about the MPEG2 HD DNS feeds. I think they're leaving the SD feeds alone.

I wish I could get east/west feeds. I'd happily give up my locals for them...damn laws...

There are no locals available from DirecTV in my rural area. The broadcast stations are all 30 or more miles away and I am behind a 200 foot hill. My neighbor has one of those 60 foot tall triangular antennas and gets two local broadcast stations - badly.

Took a lot of phone calls and pleading to get the distant stations.
