I've recently activated and plugged in my new tivo hd. I checked my account and it is set for sharing. It does not see my series 2 tivo.

Yes. It may take a while before they start seeing each other; forcing both of them to call home might speed this up.

Nor can you transfer anything that is flagged by your cable provider as "copy-protected." Same with anything downloaded from Amazon Unbox, though you can have a second copy downloaded to the other TiVo directly from Amazon.

If you're talking about why Amazon won't let you MRV Unbox content between devices, but will let you download it again to a second device, it's because it's all about the Digital Rights Management.

Amazon Unbox's Terms of Service allow you to download purchased (but not rented) content to two different devices, whether it be two TiVo's, two PC's, or one TiVo and one PC.

If Amazon were to allow MRV'ing of Unbox content, not only could you exceed the two device limit, but you could conceivably transfer the program to a PC and burn it to an unlimited number of DVD's. To further enforce this restriction, the Unbox Video Player is required to download and view Unbox content on a PC.

In that light, I suppose it's improved from not making sense, to just being excessively redundant. The fact that the content is only available for 24 hours really seems like that should be restrictive enough.

You can transfer a program to your PC and make a lot of DVD copies of it in those 24 hours. Hence the restrictions on MRV of such programming.

Of course, there are ways around it, primarily by attaching a standalone DVD recorder to the TiVo's outputs and recording the program as it plays, but it won't be a true digital copy.

I'm not saying I agree with the practice, I'm just explaining the way it is...

Unbox actually has more titles available for download to a "suitably equipped" PC than to a TiVo.

When I said "download" I meant using TTG. Yes, we can download and view with UVP. My bad.
