We were watching a recorded show (plain Series 2) when the screen blacked out except for "Application Starting ..." in a DOS-ish looking font. That was up for 5-10 seconds, then the show returned.

Have you ever seen this happen, and does anyone know the meaning?

Sounds like your cable box decided to provide you with earth-shattering news and the TiVo just recorded it :rolleyes:

No cable box. Straight connection to analog cable "Basic + Exp" package.

The look and feel of the font is just like that when you don't have a signal (like tuning to channel 0).

I agree with Rocko, this is a feed you got from your cable provider, box or no box.
