I live in the Charlotte area and just noticed something weird on my bill. In addition to the two cablecards I rent from them, I am also being charged $1.75 for "1 Additional Navigator Plus".

I called them up thinking it was a mistake and they said, renting the cablecards gets you just the cards, the navigator plus gets you ability to navigate the channels.

I think this is BS and told them that, but they wouldn't remove the navigator plus from the bill.

Whos right?

Sad to say they are.

Some cable companies... combine the rental fee with the service for the cable card.

Other companies seperate it.

Think of it like this... you go the McDonalds... Ill charge ya $4.99 for a burger, fries & coke...

OR...

Ill charge $1.99 for the burger, $1 for the coke & $1 for the fries. But those prices are only good if you buy 2 other items....

Thus you still have to get a burger, fries & coke for $4.99

You think that's bad... A couple of years ago my wife & I went to see a specialist to discuss how a health condition my wife has might affect a potential pregnancy. We got a bill from the doctor which we expected, then we got a second bill from the hospital for $200 for the use of "facilities." What facilities? All we did was walk through the door, ride up in the elevator, sat in some chairs while talking with the doctor, and I think I used the mens room urinal on the way out.

Next time I'll arrainge to meet the doctor at Starbucks. I'll even pay for the lattes.

I guess I owe them a apology.

I thought for sure it was another case of big, bad cable company screwing it's customers.

Thanks for the insight!

Wait a minute now. I thought that Navigator Plus was TW on-screen program guide. If so, that is not needed by Tivo, nor is it used by Tivo.

I am in WInston Salem and do not pay for this, but I do have one of their boxes with an old Tivo upstairs, so that might explain it

I have to say I am with you on the BIG BAD cable company putting the screws to all of us

I would try to go down to their local office and pick up a copy of their rate sheet, and ask them to define each entry. I've gotten a lot of B.S. over the phone (Comcast), been lied to once or twice. But if you go to their office, get something in writing, they will be more careful in feeding you B.S. The people in my local office also seemed to know what they are doing better then the phone people.

Also do more homework, AVS forum has some thread dedicated to local area's cable service, I would try to find something for your area, ask around there before going in. If you still get B.S., complain to your local municipality you are at, who are responsible in negotiating terms with TWC to operate in your city. That's only way to put any kind of pressure on cable company.

Found the Charlotte TWC HDTV thread at AVS:

The idiot you talked to doesn't know ****. The "Navigator Plus" is their non-DVR set-top box. Unless you have one of those ugly PoS's, they should NOT be charging you for it. I don't know how high up in the CSR tree you have to go to find someone who stood beside a clue once, but there are people there who do know what they're doing.
