Hi,
I have a series 2 and Tivo Desktop 2.6.1. The PC it's running on is a P4 2.4ghz with 1GB ram.
When I select a recording on the tivo to transfer, the transfer starts, but can take 10 Hours for a 30 min. video to transfer. During this time the service tivoserver.exe goes to 100% CPU usage, and eats up the memory as well.
I have reinstalled tivo desktop, and also cleared all of the cache files.
Any Ideas?
Thanks for the help.

Do a search, there are a couple good threads on this already.

This is a particularly difficult problem to shoot - lots of people here are having problems. Untold others (including me) are not.
One thing I haven't seen tried is to disable virus scanning. All things being equal, if the Desktop server is leaking memory on one machine, it should leak on all machines.
Try disabling on-demand virus protection/scanning and see what happens.

Hi, in windows task manager, in processes, their are four columns. The cpu column shows the % of cpu usage that each process is using. tivoserver.exe shows a cpu % of 94+ its not my virus protection that is using the cpu.
Hope that helps narrow the problem and you can give some advice. Thanks.

That doesn't mean it might be not contributing to the problem - we're just trying to rule stuff out at this point. If you're nervous you can disconnect from the 'Net while testing. Try it - or not.

Hi,
I shut Bitdefender off, cpu is running at 96-99% tivoServer.exe
So that rules out the virus protection.
TivoBeacon.exe cpu at 0%
Firefox, since I'm on it now posting is at 0-2%
Tried two sizes of files 20 minute show and 60 minute show, same issue.
I have dual core processer. How do I check each processor. Windows Task Manager doesn't seem to seperate them. thanks.
If there is a program available that checks duo core processor in action, I might be able to see what's going on.

Not sure if that's relevant. Are you running wired or wireless? If wireless can you connect wired to test?

Hi,
I have a wired system. Windows Xp pro. Duo core. 2 gigs of memory.
Thanks for sticking with me on this.

There seem to be 2 separate, but possibly related issues.
CPU utilization
Memory leaking
There are reports that backing out 2.6 and reinstalling 2.5 fixes the memory leaking - I'm wondering if it addresses the CPU utilization problem. You might try backing out to 2.5.1 and report what happens.
