Ive tried doing the connect to tivo directly twice and i still have the old software version 8.1. How do you update to the newest stuff?

You do what you did, but it could take a day or two for the Tivo system to send the update.

Really? Any time I've reimaged a Tivo it always got the latest software after forcing two (maybe three?) connections.

That may be different from a new unit which was never yet updated.

Makes sense.

check the system information screen for a "pending restart". If there you see pending restart, try a restart from the Settings Menu.

As a long-time TiVo owner, I've learned to be patient - you don't always get the newest stuff right away and you don't necessarily want it anyway.

TiVo will sometimes make the newest stuff available to a subset of their user community - they do this so that they don't get flooded by calls if they accidentally issue a "brown paper bag" release. Some number of days later, if it still looks okay, they'll make it available to everybody. You can't control whether or not you're in an early release or not (betas excepted).

TiVo really does know best - be patient, and as long as you connect regularly, you will get the latest release eventually.

Remember that for releases that require reboots, those reboots happen at 2am whether you're watching or recording or not.

The OP is not talking about the latest release necessarily, just the current one. He is still at 8.1.

Yeah 9.3 is the latest. You may go to 9.2 in a day or to I guess. Sign up on the priority list if you want to make sure you get 9.3 sooner.

Edit: I guess the priority list is now only for the S2 antenna fix. 9.3 is what they are sending everyone.

So, how and when did it update? Did you force a restart, or did the unit restart on its own? How many forced connections did it take?

Glad to hear that your unit is now up to date.
