I'm having phone jack issues, so I went to Radio Shack and they suggested the TiVo Wireless G USB Adapter. I told them I have D-TiVo units and they said it work regardless.
I have the Hughes HDVR2 and RCA DVR80 but both units don't appear to have the necessary software version. Will this product work with my older D-TiVo units? If not, does anyone have suggestions as to what my best option is to keep both units connected to a phone line continuously?

DTiVos do not support network connections. You do not need to have the phone line connected continuously, if you want to connect it and force a call once a month, that should suffice if you want the latest software.

As usual, the employees of Shadio Rack have led another customer astray. They don't pay enough at those stores to have good help behind the counter. If you don't already know what you're looking for, don't go there! It's rare to find a Radio Shack with a person behind the counter that knows WTF they're talking about.

And with all the bugs in the latest software, the wise choice would be to never connect the phone line again.
