I'm thinking about getting an HD TiVo for my plasma TV, and I see this model TCD652160 for sale on various sites. It says its "Compatible with analog antenna, digital antenna, analog cable and digital cable TV sources". Does this mean it won't work with D*TV? If not, what Tivo HD model do I need to get that will work with D*TV?

No current Series 3 box (the Series 3 or TivoHD) will work with satellite. The old HR10-250 will work, but you won't get any of the MPEG4 channels (and you have to buy a used one, they're no longer available from D*).
If you want Tivo, you need cable or FIOS.

Unfortunately, the satellite services refuse to open their networks up, as the cable companies have been forced to, so for now, we're stuck without being able to connect our TiVo S3/HD up to satellite services.

What??? Are you kidding me? HD TiVo won't work with satellite?
My only option is switch to Comcast? Unless Comcast changed since I had it a couple years ago, I can't stand their on screen guide and changing channels is so slow.

The TivoHD or Series-3 has its own guide and internal tuners. You won't be forced to experience Comcast's box as the Tivo functionally replaces it.

I know you love to do this. But let's just say the FCC forced satellite to agree on an open decryption technology.
YAY! We have OpenSatellite and SatelliteCard's!
Now, what makes you think TiVo is going to build a DVR that has FOUR Satellite Tuners (as Dish and DirecTV don't use the same technology), supports EVERY different multiswitch and dish combination on BOTH companies, all to compete with something that the satellite companies are giving away for nearly nothing?

Doesn't matter, Adam. As it is now, it is the satellite services' fault. If what you say comes to pass, THEN it becomes TiVo's fault.

What would be really sweet is if TiVo and DirecTV could do a deal to get the Series3 and TiVo HD units to work with the DirecTV HDPC-20 USB-attached tuner; unlikely, but if they did it, it would make the TiVo so close to perfect.

I'll second that. Unless I am mistaken, this would only require software on Tivo's side. It could plug right into the USB port on the Series3 or TiVo HD.
But that is too good on an idea to ever happen!
