:eek:Last August both my SIL & myself started having the same problem with our Phillips Directv Tivo's. We live about 5 minutes apart & the problems started about a week apart. We kept getting messages daily that calls were not being made. They have been, but these Tivo's think they haven't.

So since my kids had completely cleared off the recorder, I thought I would finally take Directv's advice & do a full erase and reset on the Tivo.

There is a message that says it could take up to 1 hour & not to unplug it. It has been over 2 hours now. At what point do I try unplugging it & praying it works?????

Directv wanted me to try this on my R10 that keeps freezing, but after this experience I definitely don't want to try that!

Leave it plugged in. It could take 6 hours but it should complete. I have had HR10's that have taken close to 24 hours.

Just be patient and leave it plugged in.

So if it hasn't done anything by this time tomorrow night, should I then try unplugging it & praying for the best? Hubby is already talking about dumping Directv after 8 years of being with them now that we have 2 of their Tivo's acting up. He doesn't like the idea of paying a lease fee, getting stuck with another commitment, and having their brand of dvr vs the Tivo style we have loved until recently.

If no results by tomorrow, then sure unplug and plug back in. When plugged back in you should get the same screen- 'clearing and deleting everything'.

I don't anticipate it taking this long, but report back with your findings.

Thanks for the help! After 4 hours, it finally took me to the guided set-up. It actually made a successful phone call. It did a data download in the early hours this morning. So I'm crossing my fingers that not only did I finally get through this erase and reset, but that I've actually fixed the original problem. Now if they would only fix the problems plaguing the R10's. That one is driving hubby batty!
