Just stumbled across this for DirecTiVo's. No limit per customer.
Good deal and cheapest as far as I have seen.

Wow, that would give a SD DTivo over 660 hours of recording time! Not a bad price at all. Thanks for the tip.

Yea- when purchased between 4-24-08 and 4-24-08 (not a typo- see the site). I snuck in two on my order last night.

Not sure where you get 718 hrs... each 1gb multiplied by .883 gives me the approximate number of hours it will store.

I've got a couple of 750gigs already in play and that's what it says in my system information screen. (look at my sig)

Ahh... must be the difference in manufacturers and drive capacity. I haven't seen quite that high of a multiplier on either my Samsung or WD drives.

FWIW - I have the 500gig version and it tends to be a bit noisy.

Out of the 3 I already have and other family members have, I can't hear any noise or knocking coming from the 750's. Rock solid over a year now. I have some Maxtors and WD's ranging up to 320gig and the Maxtors have the loudest noise by far.
Nothing but satisfaction with my experience on these Seagate's.

:) I guess they decided they were selling too fast, hence the one day volume limit.

Then how about a 750GB Samsung SATA drive for $109.99?

Can't use that drive (at least not in a DTivo) ... note it is a SATA drive, not PATA/ATA 100 drive.

700 hrs of programming? Why?

If I wanted to make this a second drive in my Directv Hughes Tivo. Do you just attach it and plug in the cord? I am not the most tech savvy person but if anyone has some insight please let me know.
Thanks,
Erik

No, it's not as simple as plugging it in. There isn't a second drive bay, nor is there cabling for a second drive inside the unit. Although you can add a second drive to one using a drive kit, it doesn't make much sense. Double the noise, more heat in the case, double the chance of failure. Most just buy a single large capacity drive and install the software on it.
Google 'mfslive' or 'hinsdale howto' for all the gory details of upgrades.

I have to agree with that question. I have 265 hours on one, and 140 hours on the second and have never ran out of space. Does seem like overkill, but when a 750gb drive is only $20-30 more than a 300gb, why not?
