Searched but could not find an answer-

Has anyone taken a S2 SD DirecTiVo power supply and used it successfully in a HR10-250? They PCB's are a little different in configuration. I have 4 spare SD-DVR40's. One of my HR10's powers the fan and that's it. I'd like to take one of the spare PS's and intall it in the HR10.

I presume the HR10 uses more juice, and I do not want to fry the MB.

Suggestions? Life expectancy if OK?

Looking for input. Thanks.

I'm not 100% sure, but I would not recommend trying an SDDVR40's power supply in your HR10-250.

I was hoping you wouldn't say that.

Thanks for the input, though. Anyone else?

The HR10-250 is grounded. Other direct tv Tivos series 2 are not.

The HR10-250 is grounded. Other direct tv Tivos series 2 are not.

Help me with that, please.

All my HDVR2's, SD-DVR40-80's, and HR10's are 2-wire supplies 120V ungrounded. I know some of my R-15's and HR20's are 3-wire (prong) supplies 120V (grounded), but I have yet to see a HR10 with a 3 wire female cord end.

Update-

I plugged my HR10 in again today and now everything powers up fine. So in conclusion, sometimes the unit will just shut off, LED lights go blank and hard drive does not spin, only the fan is operational.

So this tells me that power is getting to the motherboard because the fan runs, just nothing else. The ribbons appear plugged all the way in.

Anyone got any thoughts as to the intermittent operation?

And yes I have replaced the hard drive and still happens.

This will NOT WORK! We've tried it, and the results aren't good, sorry to say. You'll likely burn the parlex cable connecting the power supply to the motherboard, and you could damage the motherboard itself.

The SD-DVR power supply is 78W and the HR10 is 85W, but I think the differences go deeper.

Thanks for the input. I am starting to think the power supply is not the problem after my last post, but in the event it is the problem, I may be checking out your store.

Thanks again.

Actually, given your description, that does sound like a power supply. The fan often is the only part that works when the PS is failing - and it make jerk a bit.

OK thanks for the heads up. I don't feel like taking any chances and frying a motherboard.

We do the painful installs so that you don't have to . . . and did I mention the smell?
