Now that DirecTv has my local channels in HD, I am looking at switching back to Dtv. I own one HD TV and one Standard TV. I also own a 'Hughs HDVR2' - which I used when I was with DirectTv 3 years back (account in good standing). From what I read in the threads I should be able to re-activate and reuse this old unit. But I have a few questions.

Q1
For my Standard TV - I am planning on using my old 'Hughs HDVR2'.
What will the monthly charges be for the 'TIVO service" from DirectTV?
And will I get one less charge from DTv because I will not need to lease a DirectTv reciever for this 2nd tv ?

Q2
What is the best way to re-activate my old Hughs HDVR2?
Should I have the installer do it?
OR
Should I do it after I have the system installed?
Ie; It would the installer know how to activate this unit.

Q3
For my DTV-HD what reciever/dvr options do I have?
ie;
Am I limited to using the Directv's lease HD-DVR option?
OR
Is there a DTV-HD TIVO unit that you can purchase (ebay) that works with Directv?

thanks

$5.99 for DVR service total for 1 or more DVR's. $4.99 per receiver is a lease/mirror fee (either or). So yes you will get charged the $4.99.

Either or, does not matter.

DTV's lease HD DVR's are pretty much mostly leases, especially if you purchase outside of ebay, etc. And the DTVHDTIVO (HR10-250) works but is limited in that it does not get any of the newer MPEG4 HD DTV channels.

thanks

1) It is one charge of $5.99/month for dvr service. That includes all dvrs (Tivo or DirecTV) on the account. The exception is one or more of the channel packages come with DVR service included.

2) Unsure. You will have to call DirecTV to see what they offer.

3) The only HD Tivo that works with DirecTV is the HR10-250. It only gets a few channels in HD, and they're going away soon. It is capable of getting HD from an OTA antenna. Otherwise, you have to get an HR20/21 from DirecTV to get all HD channels.
You are stuck with the lease option unless you want to pay an unreasonable amount to own the box. If you're lucky, they might offer you the HD DVR lease discounted or free to get you to come back, but from what I've heard they're not doing that as much anymore.

If you're a AAA (road club) member, AAA has a pretty good discounted deal with DirecTV($10 off/month for 24 month, with a free HD DVR upgrade, I think). It is supposed to be for new customers, but I've read at least one post where a returning customer got that deal.
