View Full Version : Burn Notice Season 1 Marathon, Season 2 Starts July 10

USA is going to start rerunning the first season of Burn Notice every Thurs starting April 17th at 11pm. The new season will start July 10.

This was a really good show if you didn't catch it last time. Like The Closer, it is good enough for the regular season, not just a summer replacement.

The main character, Michael is a spook who received a Burn Notice which means he is not allowed to leave where he was dropped (Miami) and he no longer works for the company. He starts doing PI type work to make ends meet while he tries to find out who burned him and why.

Check it out. You won't regret it!

I'll be the first to agree, if you haven't, watch it! And even if you have, watch it, this show is great. It's fun, serious when it needs to be, but not too dark. And come on, Bruce Campbell's in it.

Just ignore the woman's accent. :)

I love Gabrielle Anwar. Fiona is an hilarious character.
Glad to hear the show is coming back. I thought it might have been a 1 season wonder.

Yep, great show. Burn Notice and Dexter are probably the best shows on TV right now. Anyone know when Burn Notice is coming out on DVD? I think my mom would enjoy it (and she got rid of her TiVo). I suppose I could record them all and burn to DVD for her, but I'd rather just spend the $40 or whatever.

If I recall, USA switched to HD towards the end of the first season and I remember being disapointed that this show was not being presented in HD.

I'll give it a go again though, I did like the show, but i stopped watching it for some reason.

Answering my own quesiton... ;) Amazon has it listed (http://www.amazon.com/Burn-Notice-Season-Jeffrey-Donovan/dp/B0015RRNMA/) for $35 ($50 retail) shipping on June 17th. Maybe I'll order it now for my mom so I won't have to remember in two months.

EDIT: Ordered!

And come on, Bruce Campbell's in it.
To those of us for whom this is not usually a recommendation, don't worry: he's perfectly cast this one time. He's salt: usually he's overused to drown out a bad taste, but when he's used just the right amount in just the right place, he brings out the flavor of everything around him.

No, it wasn't. Athough I recorded it on USA HD.

At first, I was just going to wait until the new season. Then I decided to record the pilot anyway. Man, I forgot just how good this show is. A lot of shows flounder a bit in the pilot but this one was perfect right from the start!

Thread title says "Burn Notice Season 1 Marathon..." so is there acutally a marathon (all of the eps airing one right after the other) or are they just replaying 1 ep weekly? I can't find the marathon if there really is one :( I caught the pilot ep last week and really enjoyed it. I'm all for instantaneous gratification, so if I could catch a marathon, that would be much better than just once a week:D

I really liked the first season, and am looking forward to the second one. I missed this thread early on so I didn't see the first few episodes. I had seen them the first time, but I really wanted to see them all again. Sigh...

In the latest episode:

When Gabrielle said that there was something wrong with Lucy Lawless.my wife turned to me and said, "Well, yeah! She's a cylon." She never makes jokes like that, and kind of thought it was funny. She didn't regenerate after that fall.

I think that role was made FOR Bruce Campbell. He is perfect in it as the sidekick. It's no Brisco, but it is plenty good for him.

Watching the last few episodes of season 1 I realized why I like this show.

For one, it follows a pretty simple formula most weeks. Help out someone in distress in Miami (sort of A-Teamish I guess), and then a B-Story of dealing with the Burn Notice. That is it, pretty much every week. Once in a while the Burn Notice takes the front story but most of the times not.

The kicker is though, nobody dies and the show does not take itself too seriously. It is very entertaining without any pretense about trying to keep it real. I think we have gotten so far into trying to make all television "real" that we forget that television can sometimes and should sometimes just be entertaining fun. I don't need gritty realism all the time, and there is none to be had in Burn Notice.

Just to be ridiculously careful, I'll spoiler mark this, even though it's just my thoughts, I have no inside track. But I came to this theory middle of my first time through season one, and now while we're rewatching it, it's holding up remarkably well to scrutiny, in fact, making me even more sure.
Fiona did it.

Go back and watch all the efforts she takes to subtly discourage him from trying to get out of being burned. Distracting him from the documents he's obtained. Getting him tied down in Miami. All the while, trying to "trap" him in a relationship.

She got him burned to try to force him to sit still long enough to fall back in love with her. She pinned him in Miami in hopes that family would help pin him down. That's why she was there when he came to after the burn.

Watch the last two episodes with this in mind. She's ruthless, unstable, and very cunning at playing both sides against the middle for her own purposes. It shows through in lots of little things she does.

I'm not sure how she did it yet. Probably framed him or set him up somehow. I suppose we'll find out someday.

I thought that halfway through the first episode. However, I don't think it's true.

I think she didn't burn him, but instead is capitolizing on it. So she's deliberately trying to steer him away from undoing the notice, but she didn't actually set him up originally.

FWIW, the reruns at least haven't seemed to be in HD (either that I screwed up recording it). Wild speculation follows:

I have thought for a long time that Michael's father was not just an absentee dad, but was in reality, a spy himself. Michael's burn was not because of anything he had done, but was in some way a means of leveraging his father into something. I know they have said things that would contradict this, but spys lie about stuff all the time.

I know it happens a lot in the "spy genre" that people that are supposed to be dead really aren't, but I thought Michael's father was dead? Hard to leverage a dead guy into something. (Unless I'm misunderstanding your point :)).

I think she didn't burn him, but instead is capitolizing on it. So she's deliberately trying to steer him away from undoing the notice, but she didn't actually set him up originally.
She's definitely capitalizing on it, she's virtually admitting that to him. But there's a bunch of specific things which I can't bring to mind right now that made me think it's more than that. That she was the first one there in Miami is just the smallest of them.

There's details in how she reacts to particular things in the last few episodes, and how the other people react to her, that suggest relationships she's keeping quiet with the people who did the burn, and hint that she's not just trying to keep him burned to keep him there. It's not enough that he can't get out of it -- he also can't find out why. Because that would mean he'd find out who and how, too.

Anyway, it's far from a slam dunk, but the harder I try to disprove it or find an alternative, the stronger it gets -- enough that I'm sure that the writers have thought it. They may not have decided the true answer, but I bet this is on the short list.

Add me to the list of those who think having his dad be alive would be a disappointment. That's not the kind of show this is. Now, finding out that dad's death has some relevance to something else, that would be entirely suitable.

It isn't necessary for his father to actually still be alive for him and his "spy" legacy to have been the reason for Michael's burn notice. At any rate, I said it was WILD speculation. There is no basis in the show for any of this.

On July 2, there will be a real marathon of Burn Notice. My DVR isn't listing the show titles, just the same generic description for all of them, but there are enough episodes that it is likely the whole series.

great theories...i'd always had thoughts about fiona bouncing around in the back of my head as far as who burned michael...but i feel like thats a bit too direct...i like the wild speculation of it having something to do with his father...not necessarily that his father did it, but that its somehow related...another thing i love aobut this show..you can just jump right in and try to figure out the mystery..

side note...ive been to south beach before, but i'd love to get a chance to go to some of the places they film...man just some amazing locales.

And I agree - anyone that thinks she's a 4 is certifiable and probably should be reported to a moderator. ;)

just watched the 2 hour show...i remembered most of it but it was still a nice refresher. The problem i have with the ep is why you'd spend so much time meeting in a 'secure' spot then stand outside in the open instead of in a cemented stairwell etc?

and i agree about the 4 :) everyone has different faces they like.

I saw the first season on DVD and pondered on buying it, I liked it from the little I saw, but the price was way too high (at Borders).

Been catching up and it is pretty good. Kind of a combo of Remington Steele, Macgyver and Alias. I do have to agree though Anwar's accent is annoying since it comes and goes during the course of an episode.

This is a great show, however I have never seen a show with such an ugly girlfriend, that everyone acts like she's good looking. Maybe she is just not photogenic, but come on, she is a 4 and he's a 9. No way!

Obviously, you're no catch then, either....:D

Love the show which I discoverd in this rerun thread.
Here's a fun interview with "Burn Notice" creator. Mild spoilers of minimal consequence in my opinion.

I take back the dead thing sort of.. Finally watching the last two hours, when Sam is Kidnapped, and at the end of the second to last hour :

3 people die in 5 seconds. Two people blown up in the car and then the guy he thought burned him got shot in the head. Seemingly later the two people who got blown up were shown alive so only one of the three died, but still...

So that leaves at least a body count of two for the season.

The guy he thought burned him got shot in the chest. The two that got blown up in the car most definitely did not show up again later. They were pieces after they got blown up.

And I'm sorry - I just cracked up when you referenced the "end of the second to last hour" of a two hour program. :) Most people would have said "at the end of the first hour". I kind of liked your's better, for some reason.

thats why women are all different..if they were the same, there would be issues too complicated for man to figure out. I guarantee you 100% of any population will never think 'someone' is hot

I guarantee you 100% of any population will never think 'someone' is hotExcept Angelina Jolie. I haven't met a man or woman yet that won't agree she's hot. She might not be your type, but she is definitely hot.

As for Gabrielle Anwar, she was hot when she was younger. I still think she's very pretty, her body is still hot, but her face has not aged as well. But for 38, she looks great.

The problem for her is Jeffrey Donvan is 40 and looks 10 years younger than she does.

Seriously, Angelina Jolie's your go-to person for that? She's one I would have listed as the definitive example of where there's disagreement on that, because individuals can't even agree with themselves. She's hot from some angles and in some moments, and then other times you just wonder, what the heck? (And I know it's not just me. Wish PvP had a good search engine so I could quote a comic strip they ran about this issue, and link to the subsequent forum discussions.)
