See, I dunno. They were hyping someone making an even bigger screw up than James, an even funnier misplay than the previous "not an idol" moment. This one ... wasn't. Now, if Eliza convinced him to give her the necklace and then HE played the Idol, that would have been the best moment ever.
I'm hoping there's something even crazier ahead, because that moment wasn't worth the hype.

Yeah, Eliza playing it was just kinda sad, since she obviously didn't believe for a second that it was real. I was a little surprised that she didn't play the situation better; Jason is such a complete idiot that had she not gone all "it's just a #$@%ing stick!" on him, she probably could have convinced him to switch. But as was pointed out at TC, her social skills are at about the same level as Jason's IQ--i.e., roughly zero.

"Why?"
"It's just a stick!"
"I know. It's got a face."
I laughed 'til my stomach hurt.
I think that next season they should use the stick with a face as the hidden immunity idol.
It would be funny if someone found it and tossed it aside thinking it was a fake.

I agree, would have been great if she had stopped for a second to plan that out. However, her honest reaction to it was hilarious. They couldn't have scripted that Jason-Eliza conversation any better. I loved how it got back to 'it's just a stick' again later on and Jason really had no reply to that.

What was motivation-speaker-girl rubbing on her face during that conversation early in the show? Was it sand? I've never seen that, but I suppose it's a decent defoliant.
Pavarti must go. So annoying.

Jason is such a bonehead. If he had thought things through, he would have cast his vote for Eliza like everyone else - even if he really thought that was the idol that Eliza had, her casting one vote for Ozzie would have sent him home.
Now Ozzie will just go after Jason because he knows he voted for him.
I was impressed at how well Jason did in the tide challenge. Ozzie's face looked swollen when he finally came up. That was a great challenge.

Ya and I think that is going to cause some issues. Amanda will eventually scheme to get the girl out, but what she should do is scheme to get Ozzy out.

Ya, she was using sand on her face to help clean it. I've seen some of the survivors do that before.
And I agree, Pavarti needs to go. She reminds me of the snobby girls I went to high school with, very annoying.

My wife and I had been waiting for this scene since last weeks pre-view. Even though we knew it was coming, it was still funny.
The way Jeff discussed the idol at the end, you could see that Eliza was about to believe it was real. Funny as hell.

I believe that motivational-speaker-girl was putting some type of "scrub" on her face from the reward challange that gave them the shampoo stuff.
I don't find Eliza to be very bright so it was really funny when even she didn't believe that was the idol for 1 second. It seemed like her first thought was that he was playing her until she quickly realized that he was just that stupid and thought it was the II.
I'm a huge Ozzy fan (for his physicality mostly) but his head has gotten HUGE. I think I'm ready for him to go in a huge blindside way!!!

Ozzy just seems to get more and more smug and arrogant with every episode. I'm with you, nothing would make me happier than seeing him voted off at the moment that he least sees it coming.
What do you think the rest of them are thinking by not booting his butt at the first possible opportunity? I "kindof" understood it before the merge to win tribe challenges, but if they don't get rid of him soon... then they all deserve to lose.

Yeah.....props to Eliza for at least getting it out in the open that Ozzy has the idol.
And that Ozzy love triangle just seem to come out of nowhere. I had to freeze frame to figure out who it was that was spooning with him....I had just assumed it was Amanda...
BTW Ozzy.....you've downgraded yourself with that other girl. Amanda is totally hotter!!! ;)

I thought the funniest moment was when Jeff said "Eliza with those eyes you can't hide an eye roll." (or something like that)
Jason did great in the challenge and I am glad he beat Ozzie. I liked Ozzie but his ego is just too much. It is interesting that James is sitting back and playing cool. Eating the bats was pretty neat!
Jason and Eliza arguing about the fake idol. OMG. He was just so totally not believing that it was a fake. It was funny.

I think you mean exfoliant. Agent Orange is a defoliant. :o
On an unrelated note. I'm an Ozzy fan, because of his dominance in physical events, but I agree his head is getting too big. He's got a major target on his back now. I hope he is smart enough to play the idol instead of being yet another competitor who gets voted out while holding it.

And when he said something like "Well, THAT would suck!" At first I thought he was being cruel, but then I realized he is so stupid it still didn't occur to him that it could be a fake, and he was probably just saying "That would suck if it were true; good thing it's not."
He kinda reminds me of the old Julie Brown song. "He's so stupid, you know what he said? Well, I forgot what he said, because it was so stupid!"

I thought Eliza and Jason could have made much more of the situation than just "I'll play it and hope it's real."
First -- I would have had Eliza go to Ozzy before TC and explain we have the hidden immunity idol you planted, so we know you have the real thing. If you want to keep it quiet so you can play it when it will be most effective AND not incur the target it makes you when people know you have it, keep me on the island. If I get voted out, I'll make sure everyone knows you have it before I get my torch doused."
Second -- when Jeff says "It's time to vote," have Eliza say "Jeff -- can I say something? Jason's my friend, he's been to exile, he might have found the hidden immunity idol and he might have given it to me. If all 8 of you want to potentially throw away your votes by voting for me and let Jason and I decide who goes home, go for it. If you want to play it safe and vote for someone you know doesn't have the idol, that's probably a smarter choice." If Probst makes 'em vote after that, who knows what happens with whispering, etc. If, as is more likely, Probst opens things up for further discussion because it probably makes for a better episode, you at least get a chance to make your case. Maybe you even bring out the wrapped up idol and show it around. What's the risk? If you're fairly certain it's a dummy idol, you're going home anyway. Maybe it forces Ozzy to admit he's got the real idol. Worth stirring the pot.

I loved it that Jason smoked Ozzie in the challenge - a challenge that Ozz would have normally dominated. And Jason also single handedly won that other challenge (where Eric took a dive into the dock).
I see some interesting alpha male interactions coming to TV near you!
Eliza "that's not the idol, you idiot"
Jason " that's a bummer"
too funny!!
also, if Eliza were smarter, she would've told Jason "yes, that is the II. don't give it to me, you keep it so you can use it later. Let me use the immunity necklace since that gets given back before the next TC".

somehow after she said it, i wondered why ozzy said right away that he has it.
Didnt one tribe win a 'bed and bath' package before? So it would have been real stuff not just sand on her face maybe?
Nice seeing amanda and parv getting along so well. Getting ME into an alliance without me knowing :) funny
i thought liz would have had the challenge in the bag since her face was so tiny and up thru the bars.
Anyone think they inserted ozzys comment about the 'kid thinking he's better than me' just because they knew ozzy lost the challenge in the end? :) Good work.

Looks that way, but makes me wonder if maybe Amanda and Ozzy aren't putting on an act? Maybe they think that they'll have to get rid of the other Favs and need to keep a couple of fans on their side? I wonder that only because Amanda didn't try really hard to get rid of speaker girl. She made a couple of catty comments, but then never seemed to do anything to get her voted out. Don't know, but seems that Ozzy and Amanda are both too devious for this to be what it seems.

That's the thing I hate about Survivor editing. Because of that, and the scene about Jason and Eliza discussing him giving her the II if he won, we already knew that Jason was going to win the challenge. I wish they wouldn't telegraph things like that.

I don't think the show has ever kept any strategy of an alliance secret from the audience. For that reason, I don't think this is the case. I simply think that Amanda realized that all the inertia was going toward Eliza at this time, and it would have thrown up all kinds of red flags if she went against that and tried to get Alexis kicked out. She was smart to just hang back, let everyone vote out Eliza, and then maybe she can work something next week when there isn't such a clear-cut candidate for Loser Lodge.

If she did that nothing would have changed. Ozzie would have to say he has the idol so vote of Eliza. Eliza would have been voted out and Ozzie would have been exposed as having the idol. Same thing that happened last night.

"Eliza: What you didn’t see was that the conversation with Jason on the beach was five minutes before we left for Tribal Council. Had that happened earlier – you saw me bugging him, that was a lot earlier and Jason gave it to me later in the day. Had I seen it earlier, I would have known Ozzy had the real one and would have brought the stick to Cirie and said Ozzy has the hidden immunity idol.
Cirie was my closest friend left. [I would have said] tonight’s the night to blindside him. I’ll play it up like I’m going and you guys vote with me. We wouldn’t have been able to tell Amanda or Erik or James. Cirie later told me says she would have been able to pull in Parvati, Natalie, Alexis, and the six of us would have blindsided him. I wish I’d seen it sooner so I could have tried to play that card."

Jeff really has no interviewing skills - anyone of us that watch this show could do just as good if not a better job. I don't like his all mighty host persona. He brings nothing to the table year after year saying the same crap playing the same cards with the contestants.
When he does have a chance to shine - the finale and reunion show - he does a horrible job. Anybody that has sat threw any of those should and will agree to that.
With all that being said he is still the best of the best of the reality show hosts - but if thats what his claim to fame will be - he deserves it.

Ditto. I hafta' say I absolutely cringed throughout Bryant Gumbel's hosting job at the first one or two finales and have really enjoyed Jeff's style during the reunion shows since then. He knows some inside stuff and can bring out those details during the show.
As far as each episode on the island goes, Jeff has certain scripted lines he repeats every episode. e.g., "Wanna know what you're playing for?" "It IS … time to vote", " I'll go tally the votes", etc. etc. Those do not diminish his abilities as host, IMHO.
BTW, is Jeff still in a personal relationship with that previous contestant -- what was her name -- Jenna? Or is he on the prowl again? I would think that with so much traveling for the show, that it would be difficult to hold down a relationship.

I think you find that most people will disagree with you on this. I find Jeff to be perfect for this position. He knows how to bring stuff out of the Survivors. He can easily pry for two to three hours in Tribal Council. He gets to the heart of the matter.
As far as the Reunion show, did you ever watch the first reunions with Bryant Gumbel? I don't think he even watched the show. Rosie was only marginally better. At least she knew the show and the contestants. There is only so much he can ask in one hour (and try to get to every contestant at least once.)

This is one of those areas Jeff is pretty good at calling. Someone will say something, or show an emotion, and Jeff will pick at it, and expose it for everyone to see. But other times (like this), he knows to leave it be. If he says something, it could put Erik in an uncomfortable position, having "played" his tribemates.
Add me to the Probst supporters. I think he does a great job of facilitating these people. How many times have you watched someone display an emotion at Tribal Council, and think to yourself, "Why on earth are they saying that sh*t? Don't they know to keep their trap shut?" It's Jeff who's getting them to open up.

For example on last nights TC....Jeff caught that the chick was using past tense and called her out. I was very impressed by that.

I really was waiting for Jeff to call him out on that.
Well, that's assuming that Jeff would actually KNOW what is Micronesian for "good"...
I interpreted his look at Tribal Council as being more "Huh?" than "You're busted!".

If she did that nothing would have changed. Ozzie would have to say he has the idol so vote of Eliza. Eliza would have been voted out and Ozzie would have been exposed as having the idol. Same thing that happened last night.
Except that had she said it the way it was explained in the post you quoted, she would have gotten people to think about how voting out someone other than her might be a good idea. The way she did it, she was already dead and simply stuck a dagger in Ozzie on her way down.
Jeff is a tool that deserves no praise.
I don't think you'll have many people on your side here. We've had this discussion before, and like most of the respondents, I agree that Jeff does a fabulous job. He never lets the survivors get away with half-assed answers and he calls them out on stuff all the time. You may not like that he's got certain things he ALWAYS says, but that's just his schtick. It wouldn't necessarily be better if he said something different every time.
Edit: Didn't realize there was a second page when I posted this. Others have already said what I've said here, but I'll leave it up to add my voice to the chorus.

BTW, is Jeff still in a personal relationship with that previous contestant -- what was her name -- Jenna? Or is he on the prowl again? I would think that with so much traveling for the show, that it would be difficult to hold down a relationship.
As far as I know, he's still dating Julie Berry. I see no reason why she couldn't accompany him on the shoots. There are several hundred people on the crew so adding one more wouldn't be a big deal.

If I were Eliza, I would have gone snooping through Ozzie's stuff to find the real II. Yeah, they wouldn't have really let her play it, but can you imagine the look on Ozzie's face?
Oh, and now when I see Ozzie, I think of him as: "Ozzie Garvin... Male Prostitute."

They're no longer dating. Jeff talked about it briefly in an interview last month in the last paragraph of this article:

Looks that way, but makes me wonder if maybe Amanda and Ozzy aren't putting on an act? Maybe they think that they'll have to get rid of the other Favs and need to keep a couple of fans on their side? I wonder that only because Amanda didn't try really hard to get rid of speaker girl. She made a couple of catty comments, but then never seemed to do anything to get her voted out. Don't know, but seems that Ozzy and Amanda are both too devious for this to be what it seems.
I think Amanda is devious and that's why she's biding her time. Ozzie, I'm not so sure. Some things he does are clever like making the fake idol (but he got the idea from Yao-man) but he really doesn't read and handle people all that well IMO.
He's making it easier on James by taking all the heat right now.

I like Jeff as a host, I think he does his job very well.
I'm glad he didn't call Erik out for the Duba name, I don't think he should necessarily point of people for lying...leave it to the other players to bust each other.
I agree that Parvati needs to go, and that she seems like some stuck up high school chick. Nice body and all, but there's plenty of those this season.

My only complaint with Jeff is that he sometimes interjects in the middle of a challenge in a way that might help on of the tribes.

... Jeff has certain scripted lines he repeats every episode. e.g., "Wanna know what you're playing for?" "It IS … time to vote", " I'll go tally the votes", etc. etc.
Actually, those aren't scripted...Survivor doesn't have writers.
Those lines appeared by magic.
I don't think so. Who do you suppose writes the tree-mail stuff? A writer.
Just as a writer wrote the lines for parts of the tribal council ceremonies, such as "Grab your torch and light the fire. Fire represents life ... yadda-yadda-yadda ..." "The tribe has spoken. It's time for you to leave the tribal council area." etc. etc.
Obviously nobody writes lines for each survivor, just as Jeff is not reading from cue cards (Christopher Walken, on the other hand ... ;) ) and improvises the vast majority of his schpiel. But I highly doubt the idea that there are NO writers on staff. Obviously they don't have to re-write the same lines Jeff has been repeating verbatim since Season One.
I realize that "reality shows" were spawned during writers strikes, but I would think that someone is part of the Writers Guild if they are coming up with lame poems for the tree-mail.
Of course, I could be totally wrong. And it's really not a big issue for me, so I'll drop this minor point.

Sorry, that was a (perhaps too subtle) jab at TV producers, who literally claim that there are no writers on reality shows and therefore they don't have to pay the people who write the stuff writers' wages. That was a big issue in the recent strike (an issue which the producers won).
I can't remember what they call the "writers" in order to avoid paying them; something like "production assistant."

Jeff really has no interviewing skills - anyone of us that watch this show could do just as good if not a better job. .

I know I sound like a broken record...but 15 minutes into the show, I told my wife that Eliza was going to get voted off and they will try to throw us off by hinting that Alexis is in danger...
it's gotten so predictable...95% of the time, the player that gets the most camera time is the one leaving...
Jason was so intent on beating Ozzie that he willingly gave away what he thought was an II to someone else...what an idiot...

Ok Ok - I still think Jeff is a tool.
I laugh at what alot of people consider tough questions or the "gotcha" comments. If everyone feels his uber interviewing skills are top notch - who I am to argue. I do understand how little it takes to please the masses.

I work at a nuclear power plant as a maintenance (I&C) procedure writer. Company made us Technical Analyst to avoid paying overtime. We sued the company and won and were reclassified procedure writers.

What was motivation-speaker-girl rubbing on her face during that conversation early in the show? Was it sand? I've never seen that, but I suppose it's a decent defoliant.
Pavarti must go. So annoying.
Annoying and amazingly stupid. The girls are voting for people they hate, they've completely forgotten what the game is. This would have been an excellent time to blindside Ozzy. And yet, if they edited fairly, that never even came up as a discussion.
