They are coming sunday. do i tell them to put in the standard comcast dvr or the Comcast Tivo DVR. I know the comcast tivo dvr has flaws but are they worse than the comcast dvr alone?

Yes. They are.

pretty succinct reply!! love it.
so I shouldn't go for the TIVO software. How bad is the comcast DVR alone. I will not be a heavy user and can't justify the 800 for a reg tivo..
thx

Not sure where you are getting your info from. But the TiVo HD retails for $299 and can be found cheaper than that. I've seen it as low as $199 at costco.

ok.. even at 199. it is then 400 for lifetime or 13 a month....
comcast dvr is 5.95 more than what I am paying. I love what I have seen about tivo but if I can just record and pause, I am ok.....
I am not a big tv watcher...
does anyone know if you can hook your dvd recorder up and record anything off that hard drive in the DVR?

Radman, you could just hold out for a while and wait for Comcast Tivo to work properly. That's what many on this board are choosing to do.

is the comcast dvr really that bad?
also, isn't it just software? If so, they could probably switch it once it comes out.

I'm using the standard Comcast iGuide DVR right now, and I don't think it's "that bad." It pretty stable, and I haven't had to ever turn one in. On the other hand, I've had to turn in FOUR Comcast Tivo boxes. And since Comcast refuses to upgrade a box without having a service tech come out to your home, it has become a huge waste of time for me. That is the main reason I'm waiting at this point. It's not that I don't like the Tivo software, I think it's a huge step forward (if only it worked).

wow.. well that pretty much answers it for me. reg comcast dvr until they iron out the tivo stuff. It is amazing how horrible comcast is as a company and how much money we pay them!!!
thanks

It appears peoples results vary. I had the Comcast box with the iGuide software for a few years and had to have the box replaced multiple times as well having the box lock up and need to be rebooted from time to time. I have had the Tivo software on my Comcast box since mid December and have had a few lock ups in the first few weeks, but none recently and it has never missed making a recording for me.

+1. Its been great for me. A little sluggish at times but I hope the upgrade fixes that. Other than that I love it!

I am too far in deep with the devil to do that now....
I have had the "regular" Comcast box (Motorola DCT 3412) for over a year with no problems. The software is not as good as TIVO, but works fine for a light TV user. I use mine to record sports and a few shows that I watch on a weekly basis. The series recording (like a season pass in TIVO) has always worked well for me. I will eventually upgrade to the Comcast Tivo software once the bugs are worked out. My many thanks to all of you beta testers out there who are working through the Comcast Tivo issues for the rest of us.

I agree with Eric. I'm not sure I've heard of any of the other giants being all that friendlier. Which makes me sad...
