I notice there was no thread on the finale of Torchwood. I have to say I'm glad there is closure to the whole living-dead Owen plot device as it seemed a bit hokey. I'm also glad they wrote off Tosh because the writers really weakened the character this past year with her incessant neediness.

Overall it wasn't too bad of a season. It was fun once again seeing James Marsters as a bad guy.

Has there been any speculation online of how old Jack is now after the finale? Before the Rose/TARDIS event he was aging normally and a few episodes ago it was indicated that it was at latest 1890s when he returned from Satellite 5 (? -- Torchwood women find him and he is eventually recruited). That made him about 150 years old before he was buried underground for almost 1900 years and then frozen in the morgue for another 80 or so. So at this point he's at least 2000 years old, right?

Speaking of which, you'd think his coat would have been at least a *little* bit deteriorated /decomposed after 1900 years underground.

Maybe he has pockets like the Doctor in that coat and he just spent all that time hanging out in his own pocket, which just happened to be filled with, well, everything you need for hundreds or thousands of years. Including mothballs for his coat. :)

Well, if British wool is anything like the food I can believe it.

At least it looks like the rumor of Captain Jack being written off the show was false!

I really liked this season and I can't wait for next season. Has anyone heard any speculation on if they plan to add new characters next year?

I'm kind of sad to see Tosh go, especially after the previous episode revealed all that stuff about her past and her special gifts.

Owen, on the other hand, either needed to go or needed a reboot out of the living dead state.

I despised the Owen character last season but grew to like him as this season progressed. Oh, well.

I liked Tosh even though she was irrationally in love with Owen.

I guess this is how Torchwood will get rid of its sidekicks unlike the Doctor who usually drops them off somewhere.

I thought it was another great season, I'm happy they killed of Owen and Tosh. If they would have written Captain Jack off the show, I don't know what I would have done.

Martha Jones seems to be the ideal replacement for Torchwood's medical doctor vacancy ...

Maybe Jack will let Rhys join? :p

I agree - that seemed to have been one of the casting leaks for series 3 that might actually be true.

I don't suppose there's any chance of Owen coming back in a Doctor Manhattan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Manhattan) (from Watchmen) sort of way? His whole irradiated-out-of-existence-in-a-locked-room was somewhat reminiscent of Doctor Manhattan's origin. Given that the show was addressing the whole mind/body issue with Owen being undead, it'd be interesting if the radiation obliterated his body but his soul is still around and he eventually reincorporates to continue on next season.

I generally like Torchwood as a show but this year more than ever I just don't feel invested in the characters, even Jack has faded for me. That meant that what should have been a heart breaking / gut wrenching episode really wasn't for me. I am capable of investing my emotions in a show (for example the moment when Jack lost it in season 1 with the cannibals was great) but these deaths just meant nothing to me. Only the little video Tosh made had an effect. I also didn't think they really showed what being buried for 2000 years did to Jack, you can't tell me you just pop out of the ground after 1900 years and everything is great :). Last night I watched the latest Doctor Who then Torchwood and it's clear which show works best.

If I move beyond that it was another good year of Torchwood overall. I liked it, glad to see it coming back etc. etc.

I'm also a bit lost on Jacks timeline. When he returned from Bad Wolf when did he go back to ??

Me too. And one thing I just thought of - in the episode where they show Jack losing track of Gray, he's called Jack by his family members. But he didnt' take that name until much later in his own personal timeline, so why is his family calling him Jack?

I think there are more and more developing inconsistencies in Jack's storyline but they don't worry me :)

You heard him called Jack because the universal translator made it so :)

I suppose it's possible that he was "Jack" back then, just not Captain Jack Harkness.

Damn. Good episode. I applaud the writers for actually writing off 2 main characters in one fell swoop. Good season. This sucks that it's going to be almost another year before the next one!

Also, it sounded like they layered John Barrowman's voice over Grey's to make him sound like his brother. Did anyone else think so?

While the thought that they might have done that did not occur to me, I did think that that they sounded very much alike - you may well be right.

He looked enough like him that I actually payed attention (slow mo'd) the end credits to see if he was played by a Borrowman (or even John in heavy makeup)

I got that feeling too. I think I mentioned it somewhere before the US airing. ;)

Great episode, but I was sorry to see Tosh go. I thought for sure they were going to kill off Rhys. Owen was already on borrowed time, so I wasn't surprised to see him go.

I loved the casting for Jack's brother and it definitely sounded like they either dubbed Barrowman's voice or layered it on. Nice touch. Great performances by the whole cast in this one, but especially by Barrowman when Jack put the cloth over his brother's face.

Sorry for the late bump, I have only just gotten around to watching it.

You know, seeing that the whole Spike (sorry, Cpt John hart) burying Jack was so much like when Angel's son locked him in a casket and dumped him in the sea, I can see another parallel with Angel. After Spike ceased to unlive in Buffy, he returned as a ghost in Angel. Torchwood could keep Owen as a 'spirit'

I'm thru with Torchwood. Tosh and Owen were the only characters I liked.
