View Full Version : Q: Connecting to TV via HT Receiver?

Due to a major room rethink, including a flat panel TV on the wall, it's not going to be possible to connect the Tivo to the TV via Scart anymore.
I'm going to have to go via an HT Receiver with an HDMI into the new TV.
Thing is... How to connect to the receiver? No modern day (hopefully fairly modest budget) AV Receivers have an RGB input do they?
A Scart to S-Video&Phonos will only give me a composite picture I'm assuming.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mark.

If you have no RGB input, you could do the component hack (http://archive2.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=230291) if you are brave,
or get a cheap standalone RGB to component converter maybe.
Going back to composite (or RF ) isn't pretty...

Use a flat SCART lead - http://www.google.co.uk/products?hl=en&q=flat+scart&cr=countryUK%7CcountryGB&um=1&ie=UTF-8
You could use an Xbox or Media PC to "stream" from the TiVo. Of course, it means you need to program it via TiVoweb....

It really needs to be from the HT Receiver, I'm trying to create a 1 stop family friendly solution for this room and a single HDMI to the TV will be a big help.
Apparently the QED RGB Scart to Component Adaptors work too.
Thanks,
Mark.
If it really must be SCART>HDMI this will do the trick - for a price £125 !

Looks like it's Keene product - same price here...

Me - I'd bury a flat SCART lead in the wall and spend the difference on a nice Macro programmable remote control.

I was figuring on Scart to Component but that looks great! Think I'll hold off because of the price though.
I'm going to give give this This OEHLBACK Adaptor (http://www.amazon.co.uk/OEHLBACH-XXL-Adaptor-Bi-direc-Silver/dp/B000FS9ALW) a try, I figure that at that price I can still find a use for it for adding the odd retro games console if it doesn't work for the Tivo.
Thanks,
Mark.
By the looks of that it's just an adapter, and a bloody expensive one at that - it converts a SCART socket into phono sockets for RGB and composite (RGBs). There are no signal conversion electronics in there, just physical connections. It's is not the same as component convertor which takes an RGB over SCART input and outputs component (YUV, Y,Pb,Pr).
An unmodified RGBs signal into the component and composite inputs of the amp or TV is unlikely to work unless it specifically supports an RGBs signal, my Philips projector does but it's rare.
If you hack your Tivo to output component then I believe it would work but I have no personal experience of that hack.
What ever you do you will have to use a convertor not just an adapter.
Another convertor with a great reputation....
