Happy Blue Moon to TIVO but not the TIVO faithful!

I have been a TIVO faithful since it's birth. I bought my first TIVO Series I in '99 and have been a huge fan ever since. I have recommended it to my friends, co-workers and family members.

I have had a total of 4 TIVOs over the past 8 years. My latest TIVO, I just bought last month. My first HD Series III. I was extremely happy except for the fact that I couldn't get a lifetime subscription as I had always done in the past.

Today, a little over a month later, I open my email and TIVO has an offer about FREE lifetime service for those purchasing the HD Series III TIVO. Wow, that's great but what about me? Can this offer be extended to it's current customer base? No, if it is after the 30 days, you don't qualify. I think that's ridiculous and really poor customer service for TIVO to not honor this offer or at least let you pay the difference on such a recent purchase.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MY FAVORITE COMPANY/PRODUCT? :(

Was your post in the the other forum not enough. Welcome to the forum, however the admins frown on cross-posting....just FYI.

The offer I got is for $698. Not exactly "Free" Lifetime. More like $400...

So sell your old TiVo and buy a new one with this deal.

Otherwise you're just another early adopter who regrets spending more for those extra few months of service.

I'm an early adopter too, I feel your pain, but I don't come onto the forum to b*tch about it.

I'm glad they're offering a great deal to those on the market right now. More TiVos out there = stronger TiVo company and service = more likely that the product I love will still be around in coming years.

This is a Tivo I bought last month and spent nearly $500 on - the same one they're advertising online. I have never had to pay monthly's before and I do come to the forum to b*tch - consumer's should be outraged. It's just like the Apple snafu with the Iphone!

698 - 462 != free

I doubt they think a wireless adapter is worth $236.

The offer is for a TivoHD ($299), wireless adapter (~$50) and lifetime. It's not for an actual "Series 3" box. It's for the stripped down version.

maybe it was an offer to transfer lifetime from old box to new box for free?

Probably not, though. IIRC the last time I read of FREE lifetime transfer was when I first joined here.

Edit: Ahh, this (http://www.tivo.com/promo/bluemoon.html) must be what all the talk is about.:o

The blue moon special is for a TiVo HD which tivo.com sells for $299
The Series 3 sells for $599 at tivo.com
If you paid $500 for a TiVo HD you got ripped off.

Since last October, current Tivo subscribers have been eligible to buy lifetime subscriptions for any Tivo noew or used, even tivos currently sub'd monthly w/o a contract. What you should be outraged about is your apathy towards the subscription options available to you when you purchased your latest Tivo as well as your inability to understand the special deal that you are complaining about because there is no free lifetime.

Does anyone know if this deal is to transfer lifetime service from the original tivo box or would this be essentially a brand-new "lifetime" box?

If it's for new service then it seems like a pretty good deal.

Found a TivoHD for $226 online, from a very large online retailer _maz_n.com Disguised to protect their identity ;)

Lifetime is $400. Not sure how much a tivo branded wireless g adapter costs, but I think it would get you pretty close to the $698 mark.

Am I missing something here?

The message I got said you could tell your friends, so I think it's valid on a new service.

Just the free Tivo plush doll. :) It would be for new service and I agree this is a pretty good deal. You can probably do a little better if you really scrounge around (like the NEA deal for a few more days), but it's a convenient package all from tivo and it's worth considering.
