I have a Series2 with a 40gig HD that won't power up. i bought a Series2 with a 80gighd. I have lifetime service with lifetime transfers but will only transfer like for like. How can I make my new 80gig work on my old series2 ?

Find an image to load on the 80GB drive - maybe Instant Cake is the answer there.

If Both Tivos have the same first three digits for the model number, you can put the 80GB drive from the ither Tivo in your old Tivo. You'll need to do a 'clear & delete everything' and then the drive will work in your old tivo.
But you said it won't power up. if it has a bad power supply you could swap the power supplies.
