I have a series 3 with 2 Scientific Atlanta cable cards. 3 times over the past year I have lost the signal for most of the HD channels broadcast by Cox Cable San Diego. The "fix" has been to have Cox re-pair the cards and/or send "addressable hits" to boost the EMM count. Once they replaced the cards.

Once they sent enough "hits" to boost the EMM Count to over 30 on each card; but that lasted about 2 hours then the EMM count went back to zero.

Once I scheduled a tech to come; when he did, the EMM count had gone back up over 100 on each card.

Is there another brand of cards that is better than Scientific Atlanta?

Is there a known TiVo software or other compatibility issue with these cards?

Is there something else I should ask Cox to do or provide?

maybe the cards are sub par (on their last legs) but i have no idea if that would be the case.

in my area (orange county, ca) they have areas designated by city or area codes, and those areas are brand specific to either motorola, or scientific atlanta. you have to use a certain brand, depending on your area.

Have them try different cards.

Scroll down a page or two to the lengthy Cox cable cards thread. You are in good company and supposedly TiVo and SA are working on a software fix. Most of us reboot our TiVos to restore channels. I am on my fifth or sixth set of cards since last Fall and the current ones are losing channels, too.

You are experiencing a very common problem. My S3 with Scientific Atlanta cablecards would sometimes lose the signal after only 30 minutes. I dealt with Tivo support and my cable company on the problem for months - my cable company swapped out multiple cablecards, and eventually started using the M-cards. I even swapped out the S3 with a different S3 and also tried a Tivo HD - same problem. Just recently, I gave up, sold the TIvo on Ebay, and got Dishnetworks with their new VIP722 DVR with 500gb. It is NOT a Tivo - I miss the Tivo every time I sit down to watch TV. I lurk around here hoping to hear news of what's next with Tivo - I'll switch back if they ever overcome these problems.
