TiVo desktop - watching on computer?

I am new to TiVo and am still trying to learn a lot of things that I can do. I downloaded and installed the TiVo Desktop and downloaded a couple of show to my computer. When I choose one and select play, Media Player opens, but that is it, the file never starts playing. I see a message while opening that it is searching for codec, then a codec received message. Is there something else that I need in order to watch progams on the computer?

I could be wrong, but unless you have tivo desktop plus, I think you might need an mpeg 2 codec which you have to manually download, and pay for depending on which version you get.

You can try installing the "combined community codec pack" which is free, just google it. I've also seen "stinky mpeg2" codec recomended on this board a few times and it's free.

If you have tivo desktop plus this probably isn't your problem. I'm still a newb so if this doesn't help I probably can't help :)
