View Full Version : HD versus SD baseball broadcasts wishlisting - with a twist

As we hit baseball season, I suspect we're going to be getting a bunch of questions again about how to prioritize HD broadcasts over SD broadcasts, since it's the best example of the whole HD vs. SD RSN on separate channels problem and how a clever wishlist fixes that.

(For those who haven't figured out the answer themselves and not found it elsewhere in searching, you set up one wishlist search with HD as a category option and one without it, and make the former the higher priority one. Works like a charm.)

My original question was going to be why if I had the option to watch 2 HD broadcasts of a baseball game - in other words, the RSN broadcast plus ESPN - why I was only given one of the two as an option, but as someone pointed out in another thread, I hadn't realized wishlist searches unlike season passes only show one airing of a particular program. That answered that, and in my case it works fine - I prefer my RSN versus the national broadcasts 9 times out of 10.

However, here's the more interesting question. Lets say that my RSN is showing an SD broadcast of an away game, but ESPNHD has it on. I like my RSN's broadcasting crew and would generally want to have them on for background, but if I actually wanted to watch the game for a bit, I'd want to switch to ESPNHD. (I did this a lot when I was living out of market; a game would come on ESPN or another RSN, and I'd just time delay the broadcast 20 seconds and sync it up with the mlb.com broadcast.)

I'm curious if anyone's come up with a way to wishlist record both broadcasts without completely screwing up the normal HD/SD priority. (This assumes, of course, one of the two isn't blacked out, which probably screws this up about half the time.)

Thanks.
