The unit just locks up with no picture. I have to unplug and plug back in to get it to work. Sometimes does it when I am watching it but mostly happens when tv has been off overnight. No pattern. May work fine for a couple of days or may be locked each morning. Can DTV do somthing to cause this? I have had the unit for years and I guess it could be just tired. Seems like it would be more consistent. Any thoughts?

My first guess would be a failing hard drive. You might try running TiVo's diagnostic program, Kickstart 57 (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showpost.php?p=5643823&postcount=2). I've never tried it on a Samsung unit so the light and/or screen references might be different, but it should work. If that doesn't cure things it may be time for a new hard drive or a shiny new TiVo.

Thanks for the reply. Has been working OK for the last 4 days. Will just keep it for a while. Will probably go HD soon anyway.

RoyGlad to hear that it's behaving itself. Sometimes they just need a stern talking to. ;)

Let us know what happens!

Worked OK for a while and is now locking up more often.
Tried to initiate the kickstart things you quoted to another user. Can't get to the yellow lights. Where should I see them? First screen I see is "powering up"
Then "A few moments more" Then progress colored dots as it counts up to 100%. Then even with pause held down it goes on to regular tv programing. I do see a red light on the receiver when I hold down the pause button.

RoyIf you're holding the pause button down from the time you plug it back it in, there should be a point where the yellow light(s) stays on/steady for a few seconds. Once the light(s) stays on you should be able to enter the KS numbers. TiVo should accept the kickstart command just before it switches from the "Powering up" screen to the "Almost there..." screen but since that's so hard to time, keeping the pause button down until the light is steady is the easiest.

As mentioned I have no experience with the Samsung boxes, so I can't be sure if there even is a yellow light like "regular" TiVo's. It's usually whatever light that your remote illuminates when you press it. It may be your red light since that's what lights up when you press a button on the remote. Perhaps others can chime in?

Thanks! Got it to jump when the red light came on. I now have a screen that says "An error occured" goes on to say will try to repair itself, if not back on(restarts) in three hours call 1-800-531-5000.

Will keep you posted.
Thanks again.

RoyNo problem...glad to help. Glad to know that the Samsung's have a red light.

The MFS assert or "GSOD" (Green Screen of Death) can remain for a few minutes or up to a few hours depending on how much work the diagnostics have to do. Once finished TiVo will reboot and hopefully things will return to normal.

Note: if that doesn't resolve the problem and you run KS58 and/or KS52 the GSOD will not appear...TiVo will reboot after performing the respective diagnostic so those are somewhat transparent.

BTW, curious to know...does it look like this one?
