I just bought a comcast tivo remote on ebay that was
advertised to work on a TiVo dvr, but I can't get it to work
with either my series I or my series II tivo dvr.

I believe that the comcast tivo remote is intended to work
with a motorola dvr with tivo software. Is there any way
to make this remote work with a TiVo dvr?

If someone sold you a Comcast TiVo remote, you likely just came into possession of stolen goods. Comcast doesn't sell their equipment, they rent it.

I know that the DirecTV TiVo remote works fine with a regular TiVo. Maybe that's what you were remembering.

Ebay lists plenty of brand new Comcast remotes. I saw one listing consisting of 10 new remotes delivered for $30. Comcast doesn't make the remotes, they buy them from somewhere else (Motorola?). Evidently, others can also purchase from the same vendor.
I, myself, purchased one on ebay and it was brand new in a plastic bag.

Does yours work with the series II tivo? I notice that tivo developed different software for the comcast motorola unit, so maybe that is the reason my comcast controller won't work with my tivo manufactured dvr.

The comcast remote is probably like the toshiba sd-H400 remote, toshiba took the standard toshiba dvd codeset and added extra commands for the tivo only buttons.

comcast just added the tivo commands to the their cable box codeset. Of course the tivo commands aren't the same commands as on a tivo peanut.

Thanks for the comment Edmund. The reason I thought
the comcast tivo remote might work is because it is a
peanut, with extra buttons for the comcast interface.

I called tivo tech support this morning and the person I
talked to couldn't say for sure that a comcast peanut
would work, but they walked me through a global reset of
the remote and it still wouldn't work on either of my Tivo
dvr's so the tech and I concluded that it probably is not
compatible.

Does anybody here know what a global reset is? Would
that in any way cause a comcast tivo peanut remote not to
work with a comcast DVR?

I'm assuming global reset is simply the factory's default
settings.

I'm going to return the remote I bought on ebay. I told
the seller that, and they said that since I changed the
settings, they won't give me a full refund. Ack!
