Hi, I have 765kb DSL service with Verizon.. and a modem with a wireless router. I have the TiVo wireless adapter hooked up as well, and all was good for about 2 days. Then I had to turn off my modem and pretend I was changing my network settings on TiVo Central. In the past week, I've had to do this 4 times. The TiVo support page says to make sure certain ports are open due to firewall on the modem.
The "premium" tech at Verizon that I spoke to tonite says that I do not have enough bandwith and should upgrade to at least 1.5 mb. He was super-nice and he didn't try to sell me the "premium support" package.
Has anyone had any dealings with this? Thanks!

I have 5 Mbit, the official TIVO wireless USB adapter and a super clean wireless setup (i.e. I have about 6 computers in the house that are connected by wireless and they all stay connected all the time). My TIVO, however, is another story. I have to run through the setup up (without making any changes) every other day. It will run fine for a day or two but then says "a network cable is unplugged and the test connection will fail.
I don't think the TIVO is really very good at handling any network errors at all - it just gives up.
It did this with my series 2 as well as my new HD system.

Are you using a dynamic IP address assigned by your router? If so, what's the lease length? I've seen people have this problem when the lease is too short: it expires and for some reason the adapter on the TiVo doesn't renew so you lose network connectivity.
You could try assigning a static IP address to see if it helps. I don't think this has anything to do with your connection speed.

Where do I get said address?

Log into your wireless router and look at the DHCP settings page. Pick an IP address just outside the range used by the DHCP server. On the TiVo set your own IP address instead of getting it automatically. Use the IP you chose from looking at the router settings, use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet mask and use the IP address of the router (the one you logged into) as the gateway and DNS addresses.
Then try it.
