From reading the obvious threads, it's odds on that my hard drive's failing. Trouble is when I replaced it with the original (replaced about three years ago), that's behaving even worse. Is something less replaceable broken?

Symptoms -
upgraded disk 120Gb single drive - flickering pictures, unresponsive menus

original disk 40Gb single - no live feed, black screen, no Tivo slide on booting, just a 'Press tivo or live tv' prompt. It does change my Sky box to the last channel it remembers and it did know that it needed a daily call. Green light comes on and flashes yellow if I press a remote button.

So my question is how can I find out if both my drives are up the spout without buying another one? My only non-laptop's been mothballed but can come out if (as expected) it's needed.

cheers

Re-image one of the drives - eg. the old 40gb one - from a known good backup. If it works OK then it's just a drive problem.
