(I'll preface this by saying that I'm pretty sure I saw a thread about this somewhere but for the life of me I can't find it now. If I get a link in the first few responses, I'll just delete this tout de suite)

Let's say, oh, just for example, that I want to record a show. How about Lost? Ok, fine, I was trying to record Lost. I set everything up in order to watch it at a later time, but found myself in front of the tv 20 minutes after it started, so I figured, hey, what the heck, I'll watch it sans commercials! Perfect.

But, when I turned to the channel, all that shows is a black screen. I even tried tuning there with either tuner, but apparently I'm stupid and the TivoHD doesn't work like that. At the end of the recording time, I go back into Now Playing, and it does record the show just like is was asked. Nice Tivo.

Why, though, can't I record the dang thing and watch it in real time or even with a slight delay? I know this should be possible! Am I really this stupid? Don't answer that last one.

I've tried this with both HD and SD, and I get the same result.

Your TiVo has a problem. Search this forum for "black screen" or similar.

I have (knock on wood) never had this issue with my THD. I can definitely watch any recording in progress, whether I do it through the Now Playing List or from Live TV.

Oh, and I also must say that it does, after a little tinkering(channel changing while cursing) completely and utterly shut down/restart like so many other Black Screen sufferers have been seeing. I didn't know if they were at all related, though.

Fun!

When that happened to me, one of my cable cards was not set properly. But then it recorded absolutely nothing.
