If I use a web browser to connect to my TiVo HD at https://192.168.1.10, I get a login authorization screen asking for a username/password.

What does TiVo use this functionality for? Can it be used to remotely connect to a TiVo HD and set up recording schedules? How do I set the username/password?

The user name is tivo, and the password is your Media Access Key. You'll see a version of your Now Playing list, and will be able to download non-copy protected programming (as .tivo files), but that's about it.

What is the Media Access Key? Is it the same 15-character string as the TiVo Service Number?

Nope, it's your Media Access Key! You can find it in your TiVos menus somewhere (I forget where) or under your account on tivo.com.

You can find your Media Access Key on your TiVo under Account & System Information -> Media Access Key. You can also find it under Manage My Account (http://www.tivo.com/mma) at TiVo.com.

More information on what you can do with this can be found in the TivoToGo section of the MRV/TTG FAQ (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=371710).

No, it is a 10 digit key used to access content on the TiVo, and decrypt it. You can find it online, or on your TiVo, in Messages &Settings>System Info>Media Access key.

Manually enter it, do not cut and paste.
