I purchased a dual Lite-On dvd/vcr recorder and it is driving me up the wall.
I am have a great deal of problems recording from my Tivo 2 with it. It keeps shutting off before it finishes recording the program. The manual says you have to push the "record" button twice for the first 30 minutes of recording and then again for each 30 minute additional recording time. This is a pain in the butt, and it has worked a few times, but most times it doesn't.

So I am considering another unit, and don't want to waste more money on one that will give me problems. Do any of you have dual units that record trom Tivo with ease and reliabillity? I know about the older one tivo has with DVD included, but did not want to go that route.

Can you not set an actual recording time length?

I've got the Samsung DVD-VR357 (http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=mp3audiovideo&type=dvdplayers&subtype=combo&model_cd=DVD-VR357/XAA), which is a dual DVD/VCR recorder. I've never had any problems recording from onto DVR from my S3 with it. The only drawback is it has HDMI/component outs, but the best signal I can send into it is S-Video.

Pushing the record button twice???? That will put it into timer recording on most machines, in such that it will shut off after the timer runs down. Try pushing that record button only once and it should start recording until you push the stop button.

My pitiful RCA does the same as his. I have to push the button once for each 30-minute segment, so for a 90-minute movie, I have to press the button 3 times. It's one of the worse pieces of recent electronics I've purchased:(
