Series 2 and Tivo Desktop 2.6

I have a Series 2 tivo, so I'm wondering how the new desktop 2.6 works with this? First of all, am I even able to use 2.6 with the Series 2 -- I'm pretty certain I can, but want to make sure.

Second, if I can use 2.6, with the Series 2 -- do I have all the same advantages as someone using a HD or Series 3? If not, what functionality do I lose by using 2.6 with the Series 2?

Yes, TiVo Desktop 2.6 will work with a Series 2.

The only advantages someone using an HD or Series 3 has is 2.6 when it transcodes videos to mpeg2 now supports the ability to keep the origenal resolution, meaning if you transfer one of the hd apple movie trailers thats 720p or 1080p, it will play on the s3/hd as 720p or 1080i.
