Got a automated call from dtv last night about super fan switching to mpeg 4 for next season. Didn't hear all of the message they gave a phone # but I didn't hear it. Anyone else receive this call?

Yes, Sunday Ticket HD games are all MPEG4 this year and thus you need an MPEG4 receiver to get them. They are calling everyone with any sports package to give them free upgrades. Lots of details on DBSTalk.

==================
You want to call 888-763-7772. That number would push you to an agent that can take a HD swap order, but if someone without NFL, NHL, NBA tries that number and is not eligible for a swap, the agent will not be able to process it.
EDIT: Caveat. If you have already swapped but chose to keep your MPEG2 receiver active (i.e. HR10-250 TIVO) then you would show up in the system as "already swapped" even though you have an active MPEG2 HD receiver on the account.
They do that so they are not constantly swapping the receiver out. They will note in the system that the customer has chosen to keep it on their account even though it was swapped and therefore can't be swapped again.

Any indication on how long I can wait to take them up on this offer? The message did not say.

Called last night and talked with dtv. They couldn't say if I would get HR20 or 21. I told her that I wanted the 20 for the ota. She said that it would be a swap and they wanted my HR10-250. To which I replied that wont happen. After a little debate she said I could keep it and the swap would be a free HR20 or 21. After we agreed on that I told her that if I didn't get the HR20 I wanted to keep the HR10-250 active and use that for my ota, without paying an xtra charge for the receiver. She said she could'nt do that and the system would have to charge me for the xtra receiver. I told her then go ahead and credit me five bucks a month until they could provide me with HD locals in my area. She told me to call back after the install and if I did get the HR21 then they would work out a deal with me on using my HR10-250 with no charge for the xtra receiver. So I did take the deal but I had to agree to a 2 year comitment. No big deal Iv'e been with them since 95 just because of the NFL st. New 5 lnb dish and new wires with a new receiver all for free with no charges. So maybe waiting longer you might get a better deal but I'm pleased.

VikeFan, I too wanted the HR 20 because of the OTA and it was on the workorder as the unit of choice for my install. Installer came out 2 weeks after I made the appointment but they didn't have an HR20. The installer called DTV and rescheduled the install for 3 weeks later and told them to make sure that an HR 20 was put on the work order. Guess what? Installer came out and I had the same problem - installer had no HR20 on his truck. Install again was postponed.
I called DirecTV and spoke to a CSR but they were of no help so I asked to speak to Customer Retention. Customer Retention was very apologetic for the inconvenience I was having in getting what I wanted. However, there was no way they could guarantee that I would get an HR20 for the install. She gave me a $100 credit on my account for the troubles I was having. I decided to go out and search for an HR20 that I would pay for on my own. No luck though. I finally took a chance on made a purchase on E-Bay Express. I bought an HR-20-100.
I'm still going to get my "Free Upgreade" but may probably not get an additional HR20. I've scheduled the appointment for next week but I will get an MPEG 4 DVR plus the 5 LNB Dish. I think that I did OK with this deal considering the troubles I have had with prior installs. Plus I got a $ 100 credit to boot.
Just remember that only Customer Retention can do what I got. I know that I had to pay for the HR20 myself but I can live with that. I was persistant in getting what I wanted from DirecTV and to a certain extent, it paid off in the end. I never got upset with anyone at DirecTV. Doing so would probably have resulted in a negative write-up on my account.

They sent me a HR21 2 months ago with the installer too on a free upgrade for Hotpass.
I then told the retention CSR the OTA is needed since my local CBS affiliate hasn't signed with DirecTV for Hi Def, with upcoming basketball and golf.
She immediately processed and drop shipped an HR20-700 from their distribution center in Pennsylvania, then gave me a nice monthly credit for the trouble.

So you are going to be running an HR20 and an HR21?

I'm returning mine with a cancellation attached. Come April 1st, I'll be a happy camper.

Joed, looks that way. My install apointment for the "Free Upgrade" is for this coming Saturday. The workorder still does say that I want an HR20 but I'm not holding my breath. I activated the HR20-100 that I purchased on E-Bay Express earlier this week and I'm very pleased with it so far. I am a little disappointed in that it dosen't have the dual buffers but I can live with that. I just have to get used to the new remote and all of the features of this new DVR.

That's good, you'll like the 21 too. I'm using both and an HR10 and everything is good. The extra space and tuners are nice to have.

Yes. They are offering HR20-100 receivers if you are a previous Superfan subscriber. They sent me mine last week, to upgrade my HR10. Although they let me keep the HR10 and drop one of my old non-HD, non-DVR receivers. I also got the automatic call this week, but I couldn't get another.

Ok, iv'e been reading alot of good things about the AM-21. I called dtv back and they are getting ready to start shipping these out in April. So I delayed my install for late April to get the AM-21 box to go with the HR21.

D* called me last night to give me a free swap on my Hr10-250 and dish! I said I had two of them. She said no problem. I said I wanted to keep my old HR10s. She said no problem. Been a customer since '98 with 4 Tivos and ST; that probably helps. I told her to put in the notes to bring an HR20 for OTA; I'm sure that won't happen, but if it does great; if it doesn't I'll try what one of you did above and call retention for an HR21 to HR20 swap. They are coming out next Thursday; I’ll let you know how it goes.
