View Full Version : It's a science project over there.

Trying to cancel DTV is turning out to be a science project. I called to cancel my service at the end of this billing cycle and asked what the cost will be. They couldn't tell me what I will be paying. They could only estimate. I have to wait a week before the actual cost will be apparent as to how much I owe. What if it's astronomical? What if they insist I return all equipment even though I own it as they said to me before and charge me for it. It's been known to happen before. How about claiming they never received any leased receivers even though they received it anyway. That too was known to happen as well.
I smell something very fishy about this. I find it very suspicious that they can't tell the customer exactly what they owe. It's like they're hiding something from me and will expose it after I moved on.
what I see that is happening is the computer is running and dictating what fees and charges that apply.
Once this is over, I'll be glad. I don't want to go back again if this is how they treat their customers.

You just had a dumb csr. If you cancel at the end of your billing cycle, then your balance is the same as it is right now (besides any termination fees if applicable). They don't have any way to calculate a prorated bill unless it's RIGHT in front of them (without using that "math" stuff anyways).

That's a dumb CSR AND Super. The Super has ABSOLUTELY no clue as to the competition as well as cancellation prices. DTV, in general, is stupid most all of the time and VERY arrogant too!

Actually, I'm with you and Da Goon. The CSR and his Super aren't in billing and they don't have a clue what it will cost. Da Goon got it right. It isn't complicated. They will prorate if you don't use a full billing period -- else it will be a normal bill (plus any termination costs -- is that your worry?) WRT them claiming (falsely) that they didn't get their equipment back -- well they're not malicious, but they are incompetent, so I wouldn't be surprised. It took me three months and about 12 calls to get the $345 charge for my "free" HR21 removed.

Meet the new boss...same as the old boss.
Best of luck to you wherever you go, Scott, but don't expect different treatment anywhere else. They all are about equally incompetent, which is WHY THEY'RE STILL CSRS IN THE FIRST PLACE!
It's the Peter principle at work--those who have something on the ball are either quickly promoted or quickly leave for better pastures, while those who don't are stuck where they are. Forever. The end result is an ever-growing $#!+pile of incompetent CSRs.

Thanks. I'm going to Comcast in my area. After further research about companies to go with, I chose Comcast. I considered AT&T as an alternative and will continue to do so. I like their style of service. The only downside is that they don't support the TiVo HD's since IPTV doesn't use conventional tuners!
Comcast will be installed next Saturday morning.
