Dead Drive

I have an HR10-250 with a 300 gb weaknees upgrade drive that went bad. I can't afford to get a new drive right now so how can I make it back to a one drive setup again? I tried removing the 300 gb and just leaving the 250 gb drive in there but it won't boot up.

I tested both drives using a usb to ide cable and the 250 gb drive is fine but the 300 gb one won't even test so that must be the bad one.
