I have two series 2 dual tuner model TCD649080 tivo's both brand new from tivo neither have ever even been plugged in yet.

What i would like help with is taking the harddrive out of one of them and installing it into the other one so that i can have one tivo with two 80gb harddrives.

I already have a dual harddrive bracket purchased from weeknees with all the needed brackets and cable splitters and so forth.

What i need to know is what do i need to do to either of the harddrives to make it work and how to do it.

Its from my understanding from alot of tivo upgrade post and information out there that i shouldn't need to do anything to the master drive or drive a since i'm only adding a drive, but i am not totaly sure about this and there is no need for a backup since there is nothing on them but what came from the factory.

It is also my understanding that i have to do something to the second drive programing wise even though it already has all the tivo software/programing on it in order for it tto boot or mount or something like that as the second drive giving me that extra storage space that i'm wanting.

I should also mention that this would and will be my very first tivo upgrade or hack other then the tivo thirty second skip hack lol. So yes i'm very new at this and need very laymen terms in any help that i may get. any helpfull advice or suggestions would be greatly appriciated

Please help

Thanks, Tanner

MFSLive or WinMFS are two easy ways to add the drive. They both "format" the second drive and modify the first to know it's there.

That said why waste the money and time to add only 80gb? A 750GB drive can be had for less than 150$

I would love to add one or even two 750 harddrives to my tivo but unfortunetly i have some other more expensive bills and this is what i have and can affortd for right now.

Ok so for the rest where could i get MFSLive or WinMFS and how do i use them to get the drives mounted correctly and working together or is there a place with good instructions for the use of these programs? as i said i'm very very new to this and so this will be my learning experience

Thanks, Tanner

Also which program of the two would you suggest using which might be better?

I personally prefer MFSLive but you might find WinMFS to be easier (since it works under windows). Both can be found, with instructions, at http://mfslive.org/

Whichever you choose will need both Tivo drives connected to the PC at the same time.

I have a similar situation. I currently have a S2 w/250G upgraded HD and have ordered a S2 DT unit with 80G drive arriving 2/27. The 250G HD has programs on it I would like to preserve and would like to be able to add the big drive to the new DT unit as a B drive but with the current programs intact. I can offload the programs from the current drive via T2G prior to the removal from my current unit and them transfer them back if necessary, but is there any way I don't have to do that and just add the drive with programs intact?

When you format the second drive to add as a B drive, it erases the contents of the drive. You would have to use TTG to move programs off the original drive and then back on to the upgraded TiVo.

It is better to have a single drive TiVo rather than a two drive TiVo. I would recommend that you upgrade the TiVo to a single large drive and use TTG to move programs from one TiVo to the upgraded TiVo.

So no way around formatting the new drive then. I'll just replace the 80G drive with the 250G as the bigger drive is less than a year old and will offload the programs prior to installation. Thanks for the advice.
