The SeaLaunch launch of the DirecTV 11 Satellite went nominally, placing the bird into orbit at the proper destination, or at least getting it to where the onboard engines will be able to maneuver it to where it belongs for it to be used for normal service.

It looks, thus far, like DirecTV's launch will be a big success.

Contrasted (sadly for Dish Network customers) with a failure by the launch team for Dish Network's most recent launch (AMC 14) to get their bird close to the intended position via the launch vehicle. (Second stage didn't burn properly leaving the bird much lower than desired or usable at this time, engineers reportedly are working on trying to come up with potential ways to get the bird to it's intended service location but in so doing they may wind up great reducing it's usable life span...)

So far it looks like it's a great time to be a DirecTV customer if you continue to want the most High-def programming for your money, and unfortunately it appears to be a bad time to a Dish Network customer as you may have to wait longer than you hoped for many of the promised and expected High-def channels to hit your system.

Personally I hope Dish is able to catch up soon, and really hope both get much more competition from FiOS and cable to keep the prices down and the number of High-def channels going up

You can watch replays for the next couple of days on Ch 573 or 578. Check your Guide.

And follow the positioning, deployment and testing "action" here ....

You're right, we need Dish Network to stay competitive, it's good for subs of both services.

Even though I may chuckle with glee since they were so incompetent they drove me away (it serves them basserds right), you are right (and schaudenfreude only feels good for a minute or two). A bad launch for one vendor has a negative impact on all of us.

Still, better them than us :D
