View Full Version : Does anybody remember what month/year the HR10-250 was introduced?
I'm trying to figure out how long I've owned my HR10-250 and I can't find anything in my records. I bought it from DirecTV for about $400 if I recall, not the $1,000 price when they first came out. Anybody have any idea when they were first introduced?
I was among the first to get one and it was April of 2004.

Wow. Four years ago next month. I got mine in May of 2004 and it's still working great. I did upgrade the drive to 400GB a couple years ago for more capacity.

Yup I recall 4/04
After looking up my orders at DirecTV.com, it appears that I may have gotten mine in October 2005. The orders only show "HD DVR" and don't specify which model, but the amount is $554 and since the DirecTV order history doesn't ever show the actual amounts for anything, just the total, but it must be this one.
I find this surprising and the reason is that I bought my first HR2x in September 2006. I can't believe that I had my TiVo HD DVR only about a year before I got my DirecTV HD DVR. It took the HR20-700 a year before it finally became reliable, but I've had it now for 1-1/2 years and the HR10 for 2-1/2 years.

Got mine in May of 2004 for (gulp) one of those higher prices. I was reminded of this last night as I looked at the T60 in my basement and it said it had not made a call in 1391 days.
FWIW in all this time I've never had one missed recording and the only restart that I didnt initiate happened during a bad storm when the power was doing funky things.

Anyone remember when these units were DISCONTINUED. I got a unit on ebay some time ago and I've recently noticed on my bill that that they're claiming it is "leased". The leasing program didn't start until March of 2006. Was the HR10-250 still available after the leasing program started?

Yes. When I got my second one (can't recall exactly when I got it, though I want to say it was in late 2005), it cost me $399 and it was leased.

I bought my 3rd off the floor at Circuit City in October of 2006, and it was pretty much the last one anywhere other than eBay (the cool part was I paid $238 for it and DTV reimbursed me $300). But it only lasted 14 months before it died (it had been a demo for 2 years prior, which probably contributed). If you mean "discontinued" as in when they last stopped making and shipping them, I think that was about July of 2006. DTV filled the gap with refurbs until the HR20 ramped up just before the holiday season.

+1
I had 2 new HR10's installed (for free) in mid to late 2006 and two others that 'died' in 2007, and DTV sent refurbs to replace. The two that 'died' had reawaken and upgraded to 6.3x(now 6.4a) and are currently 'active' or in other words, 'brought back to life'. No problems with them since. Which leads me to believe previous software updates killed some IRD's for awhile, but not all of them.
