I have been having problems with my Hughes HDVR2 Tivo receiver

I order a replacement from someone on Ebay

I called up Directv got everything changed over to this receiver, put in my card

I was hoping to just put my hardrive from my HDVR2 in the replacement but someone told me that would only work if I deleted all my recordings , why bother if I am going to lose everything.

Anyway I open the replacement TIVO today, and left the hardrive that was in the replacement where it was

The guy left me a note that says before he shipped it he went to delete the recordings on the unit and it said it would take a hour but it never finished.
But he said it should be okay since the unit worked the day before he shipped it.

He did offer a refund if it doesn't work.

I plugged it in and it gave me the Powering up message
then Almost there

and finally I got a message that said Cleaning and deleting everything. This will take an hour

But after waiting 1 1/2 hours it was still saying the same thing

I pulled the plug and tried again and now after 2 hours its still saying the same thing. How can it take 2 hours to erase a drive that only holds 35 hours of stuff.

What do I do now?

I would love to put my 320 GB drive in there and use it and keep my recordings.

But I would really like to watch some tv.

I haven't been able to watch any TV all day. I wish there was a way to just access the tuner to watch live tv while its playing with the hardrive.

I believe it can take many hours for a "Clear and Delete Everything" - and would hazard to guess that it restarts the process everytime you interrupt it. Have you tried just leaving it running overnight?

I have a HDVR2 also. An hour, I wish. I know what you mean about how long it takes. It takes hours so just be patient.

If you still have problems and want to be able to backup and upgrade your tivos yourself, and have a way to hook up your tivo hard drive to another computer, a couple of special screwdrivers, anti static wrist band and ablility to burn a few cds your could backup and restore the drive yourself.

If you are interested in doing it yourself, let me know and I will help you (no charge). I had my tivos upgraded by others for 5 years and the last 3 I have done my own many many times.
