Help with my HR21-700

My HR21700 is acting up on some channels not all the station looks like electrical shocks cutting through the picture or like there is bad reception. I checked the strength its all good and my other receivers which are the 10-250 are working fine. I do not getting HD because there are trees in the way. I have some cutting to do this summer.

Perhaps the trees are causing reception issues with other satellites as well.

Please post back with your signal readings for each satellite's transponders (and both tuners if applicable). You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength".

Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner using these examples:


Satellite transponders (32 total at 101-deg)

Well, those readings look fine. Of course, you won't get very many HD channels with that old dish. Why didn't you have DirecTV upgrade your dish when you go the HR21 HD DVR? They often provide that for free.

Since it's just the HR21 that's have issues, try swapping it with one of your Receivers. See if the problem stays with the HR21 or stays in that room. Let us know what you find.

I do not get any HD channels with this dish. They took them all away from me. I have over 40,000.00 invested in my hobby audio and video toys. And no HD. I live in a bad place also we only have one station that broadcasts in HD. I had direct here 3 times to install the new dish. They would not put it up because they say the trees are in the way. I have woods behind my home. That is what they said about the first dish also that i could not get a signal. I had them send a supervisor to check it out and he found a place on my roof where I get a very good signal. If they would of left the old HD package alone and not of shifted to another LBN I would of been satisfied with that. I could get about 11 HD channels. Are cable provider is also in the dark ages not many HD channels on there packets. Do you think that if i can get a high signal with this dish i should be able to get a good signal with the new one 5 LBN? Do you know if Dish network has to point there dish the same way as direct. By the way the receiver i have is a HD 20-700 not a HD 21-700 Thanks

I think you should get another installation opinion. The fact that you're getting strong readings on the 101-deg satellite usually means you can receive the new HD satellites at 99 and 103-deg with no problems. The trees would have to be VERY close to your 101-deg line-of-sight to mess up your signal because those three satellites are pretty close together in the sky.

he may have the same bad luck as me...i thought i'd have no issues with the new birds but said no way on the back porch roof where 101 and 110 always came in for me (ez install location so it wasnt like he was lazy)

found a spot on front roof, shooting back up over the original spot..but i guess was far enough back got all the birds in including my never before received 119! So it was a good move by the installer

of course the dish almost above my front door doesnt look so great but who cares...trees fill in most of the year anywho
