I do believe that this thread should be in a different forum.

Also, why would we want the YouTube quality videos on a large screen TV? :)

LOL. I guess you aren't aware that DirecTV is going to have YouTube videos available on it's DVRs as well. Oooops.
In fact, you can do You Tube right now on the HR20/21 with software on your PC like Tversity which streams to the DVR. Oooooops again. ;)

Why does it matter that this is discussed in this forum? Everything else non-DTivo dvr is anyway. I'm guessing that there are still many HR10-250 owners trying to decide what they will do - stay with Tivo or stay with D*, so I think these discussions are just as meaningful to them as the discussions on the HR2x;)

I said that because the subject was related more to the standalone TiVo. And, it's the "other" DirecTV DVR that's discussed here, not standalone TiVos.
And, there is a larger audience in those forums.
BTW, the OP took me up on my suggestion. :)

I don't believe that the OP did take you up on it - you'll find someone else started that thread. I still fail see what's wrong with having a discussion on other Tivo issues here when we are allowed to discuss the HR2x. Some of these topics have a different perspective in this forum as compared to the others because it is a different audience.
But you were successful in getting the discussion stopped here.

Well, whoopty-do for you.
And how old are you, 5? Maybe when you grow up you'll have a brain. ;)
Geez. Some people in this place amaze me.

Jim, I'm with some of the others:
a) if you care about this forum's survival why would you discourage anyone from discussing anything. I case you haven't noticed this forum isn't exactly the place to be anymore.
b) I'm also with you. I don't know why anyone would need You Tube on their TiVo. (Or much of anywhere, for that matter.) I can only assume that they are all Time Magazine readers who think that user contributed content is important even if 90+% of it is tedious, self-serving garbage. Or, they are kids who don't know the difference between worthwhile content and garbage.

I think the significance of the announcement is that yet again, Tivo is pushing the envelope - more video coming from the internet to the TV. This kind of announcement is just another step in the path of getting more video from the internet to our TV's.
I enjoy the Tivocast offerings and look forward to more. There are a lot of good-quality offerings. It's a shame that Direct chose not to implement a lot of the Tivo features. This is yet another example of how we were short-changed by D*.
Just because you guys don't like what is on You Tube doesn't mean that others don't. I certainly don't want to go back to the days of 3 or 4 networks, but it seems you guys would encourage that, because after all, if you don't like the broadcast, then there must not be much to it.:D

Like I said, I can do You Tube videos right now on the DirecTV DVRs and have been for months. ;)

Can you do this straight to the DVR or do you have to go through the PC first?

You know after using a D* Tivo for so long... yeah it kinda pissed me off not having all the features of the SA Tivos. However, now that I am a SA Tivo user... I can understand why the features are not on the D* Tivos. It seems that if those features were part of the base DVR cost then Tivo would be getting short changed for all their innovation and hard work. Sure, they could do all the R & D on something like this only to have D* go off and do exactly what they did. And where would they be... allowing D* users to get these services for a fraction of what SA users get them for.
It may also have been that D* was just too cheap and did not want to pay for the added feature set.

But you forget, RS4 has never used or owned a DirecTV DVR and has this nice habit of just making things up. ;) And I keep asking him why he still posts here, when he doesn't even have DirecTV anymore either. But all I hear is the sound of crickets. :)

Right now it's thru Media Share which runs thru your PC or Mac. Run Tversity on your PC for example and you can view You Tube videos, listen to Internet radio streams and much more.
But DirecTV has announced the You Tube integration is coming directly on the DVR this year. We'll see what comes of that. But it is available now quite easily.

You mean like the video that I currently stream to my TV with the PC that's integrated into my HT setup? Why should I restrict myself to You Tube? Or TiVo? Or Directv?
Just because you guys don't like what is on You Tube doesn't mean that others don't. I never said that I don't like what is on You Tube, I said that it is 90+% garbage, which it is.
