Hasn't someone figured out how to daisy-chain the DirecTV HD box with the Tivo HD recorder yet?
Afterall, why should we wait for these 2 companies to pull their heads out?!?!

Can't be done...
IIRC the TiVo HD doesn't have analog inputs.

I think someone has, but it only records in SD, albeit a much better SD than DTV sends out.
I could be wrong- anyone going to throw me under the bus?

Maybe just a slight push in the direction of the bus stop...
I don't think the quality of a digital recording has much at all to do with the technology in the recorder when we limit the discussion to bit-bucket recorders that don't do an encode/decode (DirecTivos, HR2x's, etc.). PQ is defined by the limitations of the original encoding and compression, meaning that there is little if anything that can be done on the downlink side to improve PQ.
But at least you have the germ of a great urban legend.

Just get a Series 2 TiVo. You will get the same end result, even better, in that it does have A/V in (albeit SD), and control of the DirecTV box.
