I apologize in advance if this thread has been asked but I am not clear on the topic.
a) If I bought a used DIRECTV HR10-250 HD DVR TIVO + 750GB UPGRADE on eBay would it work with my Directv HD account? In other words would it record my HD channels in HD?
b) Would this unit be able to work over my internet connection or does it get data from directv? My guess is that it get's data from directv and not tivo.
c) is this a tivo unit?
d) does it download stuff from amazon.com, and all the other features my other two tivos do?

Any other feedback is appreciated as I want to make the correct decision.

a) Only the original HD channels (in the '70s channel numbers) can be received or recorded in the HR10-250. The new HD channels require an HR20/HR21 HD DVR.

b) The HR10-250 doesn't support any sort of internet connection. It gets its Guide Data via satellite. Software updates require a phone line connection.

c) Yes, it uses Tivo software.

d) No. DirecTV and Tivo stopped investing in new Tivo features a couple of years ago. So most of the fancy Tivo features are not available on DirecTV/Tivo DVRs.

Also, if you buy ANY DirecTV equipment on eBay, be sure to get the "Receiver ID Number" from the seller. Then verify that number with DirecTV to ensure that the equipment can be activated on your account. Lots of horror stories here from folks who inadvertantly bought stolen equipment, or Receivers with outstanding bills that DirecTV would not activate on their account.

I was one of those horror stories 2 years ago. Works as a OTA digital tuner (only) now.

Also, for the OP, you can record OTA HD programming as well, not just channels in the 70's.
