OK, now this is the episode I have been waiting for. *Finally* Eli gets called officially on his odd behavior.
...and I loved it. I was actually losing A LOT of faith in the show; in fact, I was about to delete my SP. But I think I really get the show now, and I'm digging it.
Victor Garber was outstanding in this episode.
It will be interesting to see what Eli does now that the carpet has been pulled out from under him.
The ending little whammy with the acupuncturist also explained a few things as well. I was actually moved. :)
Definitely looking forward to next week's episode.

How many episodes will we get of Eli Stone?

I rather thought the whole getting-called-on-his-behavior thing came out rather contrived. I didn't see the need or the basis for it. But it still was enjoyable. I suppose now we'll see Eli go up against someone in the firm so that Jordan will come to regret kicking Eli out of the firm.
Eli perhaps should contact Crane, Pool & Schmidt for a job in Boston...

I liked this episode except for one thing: he forges a signature on a medical document and gets a $1000 fine?? I'm willing to put up with a lot but that's ridiculous. It would have been much better to make a very, very large fine (even that seems unlikely: I'm not even remotely associated with law practice but I'd think that's a disbarring offense, hands down) and have Eli have to deal with having no money, as well as no office, no secretary, etc.

But wouldn't the firm pay for the fine, since he's still an employee?
Also, if he has no office and no caseload, how is he still considered employed? Doesn't he get paid according to the number of hours he bills? Are associates paid a basic salary?

Associates typically get a salary with bonuses based on billable hours. At a high-end firm in SF like theirs is supposed to be, a first-year associate would make a minimum of $130k/yr in base salary. A more senior associate would be easily over $200k. It was mentioned that he clerked at the Sup. Ct., so I'm sure he'd be making over $300k before bonuses, possibly a lot more than that. At least in Atlanta, he would be, and the SF market should pay slightly better.

I thought he didn't forge the signature. His doctor brother really signed it but Eli lied and said he (Eli) forged it so as not to get the brother in trouble.

As far as who pays the fine, couldn't the judge direct that it must be paid by Eli himself?
Anyway, it doesn't matter. I was just really surprised when the fine was a paltry $1000.

Got to love a show that throws in a Les Miserables reference - Raines is my own personal Javert.

I realize I'm trying to inject logic into this goofy show... But why doesn't he just tense up and do NOTHING when the mental episode/vision/whatever you want to call it happens?
I know, because it doesn't make an entertaining show.. But IIRC, even Ally McBeal didn't really interact with her fantasies when there were other real people around.. at least not as much.

I've been wondering the same from the very first episode.

I'm thinking the aneurysm also affects his endorphin and seratonin output, which reduces his self-control and inhibitions. Once the vision takes hold, he can't help himself.

I thought the way Jordan treated Eli at the end was really harsh. "I don't have to give you an office, a secretary, a caseload, respect." I just don't see that what Eli did was all that unreasonable, considering that the whole idea of him having to go before a disciplinary council due to a life-threatening illness was completely ridiculous.

"Just stand still until it passes, idiot! Stop dancing!"I think sometimes it's like a dream, where he loses track of reality and forgets that he actually is in the middle of a board meeting.
Either that, or Gloria Estefan is right, and The Rhythm is Going to Get You.

I know what you're saying, but I guess lawyers need to be able to trust the guys they work with since they can't trust anyone else  :p

I remember he also said something to the effect of "if you lie to me it will forever alter our relationship." Yep, it did.
At first when he asked him "are you in any pain?" I thought he was going to let him off the hook. But then when he said "I'M talking now" I knew it wasn't going to be pretty.

My take on the "fine" is that the judge saw through what Eli was trying to do, and realized it was a family thing and the brother actually DID sign off on it. That's why she let Eil off the hook so to speak. She couldn't do anything to the brother because he didn't admit to the forgery in court. There was some sympathy involved there.
Now, one thing I wasn't clear about at the end. Is Eli still with the firm or did he get fired? He definitely packed his boxes, but is he moving to another office (shared office maybe) or is he out on his keister?
The other thing I don't get about the show is why didn't he just tell Jordan the truth from the get go? After all, if he told him, Jordan could have protected him (and the firm), and being his future father in law, could have given him cases that didn't require time in court and a full time assistant for when he has his visions. Of course that would have made the show less interesting.

He can't be fired, because of the settlement reached with his old girlfriend in Episode 1, and because they're suing the bar association on his behalf for violating the Americans with Disabilities Act.
But they don't have to provide him with an office or a staff or any work, for that matter. So I guess he will be sitting at home and drawing a basic salary and nothing else.

Not a bad gig, if you can get it. I wonder if the settlement agreement from the pilot had any provision about the firm reducing his salary.

He told his receptionist he'd be right down the hall if she needed him, so he must have gotten his own office space in the same building.
