I liked this much better then the pilot, I'm excited to see what else we learn. Loved that his name in the 40's was York.

I'm liking this show, too. The fact that he has kids, and that Omar is one of them, can make for some interesting stories. Immortality plays well in a TV show when they can flesh out the long life of the immortal (that's why I think Highlander the TV series was better than Highlander the movie.) Immortality is a great concept, one that fascinates me.

My wife said we should give this another chance as she heard the pilot was bad but it quickly got better. This one was much better. Still not the best show ever but they seem to be finding their footing.
I was musing to myself that living forever as a human beats living forever as a vampire: as a human you can have children and they can be your cohort, rather than relying on toady human sycophants. Sweet!

But having kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and great great grandkids all coming to you with their hands out can get expensive!

They seem to do alright. The two we've seen so far seemed reasonably successful. I'd be interested in following up on the legal secretary from 1941. John and Omar seem to have an agreement about John's furniture craftsmanship, but otherwise Omar's bar seems to be doing ok.
I like this ep very much. Too bad all we may get are the next 5 episodes. Hopefully, it'll get good ratings and Fox will keep it around. Otherwise it will be another BIHF from me.
Maybe we can have a crossover show........New Journeyman.......... :)

I really liked the Premier but haven't had a chance to see last night's episode yet. I'm jazzed by the concept they use well..... the concept that if you live in one place for 300 years you will pretty much have keen insight into what is going on today. I'm really looking forward to watching Ep 2 tonight.

I liked it. I wonder if there will be more to the story about why Omar's mother died so young (gravestone 1945, but the first flashback was 1941).

I'm wasn't as excited about the Pilot. It was ok. But, the second episode was much better. Nice story line. His history was very interesting. His skills he's developed over the years are impressive.
If this show continues to be this good, I will be hoping it gets renewed.

But you'd think he would have cleaned up on the long term investments....

I'm curious to find out who raised Omar, I get the feeling it wasn't John.

A couple of hunks of land and he'd be set for life. Er, Whatever.

Somebody who makes his extra money semi-forging classic furniture might not be the most forward-looking type who would do well in investments. I bet around 1928 he thought, "Hey, this stock market thing looks cool! I'll put all my money in THAT and get REALLY rich!" :D

I'm not sure it's forgery if you really are the artist.
I liked how they showed that he maintained long-term connections with his children. I hope they expand on that in the (few) future episodes.

I think "semi-forging" was the operative word. When the sellers/buyers believe the artist is dead the value is increased. The furniture is represented as older than it really is. That's sorta semi-forging.

I also am glad i gave it another chance. i liked this episode much more than the pilot.
I assume he has many different things afloat that keep him well off. So far we know he was a soldier in the civil war, a poet, a carpenter/artistian, a laywer and currently a detective. All of these "jobs" probably were under different aliases. I figure like with Highlander, he has left himself money from each of the previous incarnations in one way or another.
So who is to say he didn't play the market when it first started or one of a dozen other things where the money/profit ended up with him giving it to himself.

I don't understand the premise of the show.
He saves the Indian girl's life by sacrificing his own, and in return, she curses him, with the most monsterous curse I could possibly imagine.
Who wants to live forever? So instead of the sweet silent embrace of death, he is doomed to suffer eternal life, watching everyone you know and love grow old and die, while you search for the one who can finally free you from your torment.
Thanks for nothing, Pocahontas. Next time I'd let you die.
But I do like the show.

You're not a woman :)
The thinking goes something like this: It's not a curse because she's giving him the opportunity to find his soulmate, no matter when or where she might be. Most people never get that chance. Or something like that.

Actually, the term is "fraud".
Although John probably considers it a past life which is now dead......

I think that if people found out the creator was 400 years old, the value would increase, not decrease, no?

Maybe the "live forever" thing was an unfortunate side effect to bringing him back to life. Not the intended result, but kind of along for the ride and she was just being thorough in telling him about it...

New Amsterdam March 6 Golden boy....
I liked this much better then the pilotDamn. I hate when networks run weird schedules like this.
I assumed I had a week to watch the pilot and figure out if I wanted to catch the series, and then they go and schedule the next episode 2 days later. So now I've missed the 2nd episode.
Why do they do this type of thing?

Why do they do this type of thing?
In this case, ironically, to boost ratings--they put the first two episodes after American Idol (? Some high-rating reality show, anyway) so more people would be exposed to it. From now on, it will be Mondays.

I'm still trying to figure out why my TiVo didn't record this episode...
*EDIT* D'oh! It lost out to "Lost" and "Celebrity Apprentice."

As others have stated the second episode was much better, I have not watched the third yet. Doesnt really matter though because since I do enjoy it, it's almost sure to not be renewed.

Pros: I might be able to catch up on my to-read pile.
Cons: how many different operating systems / music media formats / etc. would I have to go though in a couple of centuries....
Hmmm.

I can't think of a gift any more valuable then knowing you will find your soulmate, I'd put up with the extra life thing if that was the end goal.
I also really like that his "secret" isn't secret and he lets those whom he loves in his life know about it. It was also very nice as to how he dealt with Omar's issues about Omar's mom not being "the one" and that John said how much he loved her, and to me, it said that he wished she had been "the one"
I surprisingly like the show, and I didn't expect to.

I don't think he "sacrificed" his life for hers so much as he pissed off the other guy with the sword. I don't think he intended to trade his life for the Indian's.
