View Full Version : Friday Night Lights renewed?
I'm not 100% sure how trustworthy this site is, but Deadline Hollywood Daily is reporting that FNL has been renewed. Details at:

I hope that this news is correct!:up::):)

I sure hope it's true. If so, that would be the best TV news I could hope for this season.

If it's true, then I'd have to say...
um...
What would be the opposite of "Burn in Hell, NBC!"?

It's also mentioned on Tvguide's site using the above link as a source but also says its part of a deal with DirecTv that would have the first airing on an exclusive DTv channel with an encore on NBC. The deal isn't final yet but is close, according to sources.

Sweet. If they did something like this, it would definitely make me more loyal towards Directv when my two year commitment is up.

I wonder if they will pick it up where the last season prematurely terminated or have some time elapse before the beginning of the new season.
If I remember right, they were still in the middle of football season and had a ton of hanging plotlines...

So what is the relationship with DirecTV and how does it affect the schedule? I don't care either way as I have D*, just curious.

There is a God, and NBC is God's employer!
That's my attempt at the opposite to BIH!
Can't wait for more volleyball! Well, and, er, football too!
When does this pick back up? Were there any other eps in the can (I thought not)? Would they ramp up production now to get some eps in this Spring, or will they wait until Fall? Isn't NBC the network that recently said they were going to "around the clock/year" programming?

1. That's up to the writers to decide, I suppose. There are problems either way; if you pick up where you left off, people might forget what was going on, but if you start with a new school year, you have to deal with both the hanging storylines and the fact that a number of characters are supposed to have graduated (unless they decide to "hold back" a few of the seniors like they did between seasons 1 and 2).
2. They aired all they had.
3. They have already announced that there will be no attempts to make new episodes for the spring, unlike, say, 30 Rock, which is supposed to be making 4-5 episodes for April/May.

The writer of the original report is known to be pretty reputable. She is considered the indie-version of Variety and the Hollywood Reporter, and was on NPR's The Business last week.
This is awesome news about FNL!

I read somewhere yesterday that Kyle Chandler was on an NPR program and stated unequivocally that FNL would be back for a third season and he was set to report to Austin in June. Now I can't find it and wonder if I dreamt it. Was it real?

Yes, it was real. Read Interview Here (http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/CA6545523.html?q=Kyle+Chandler)

From today's LA Times (http://www.calendarlive.com/tv/cl-et-fridaynight3apr03,0,7404324.story):
"Friday Night Lights" will be back for a third season, thanks to a deal between NBC and DirecTV that splits costs and distribution rights, giving DirecTV customers first dibs at the high school football drama, starring Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton.
The 13-episode season will air initially on DirecTV, beginning Oct. 1, and then run on NBC at midseason.
Initial thoughts... Only 13 episodes? :( But I get to watch them starting Oct 1? :) (I have DirecTV)

Bump.
I just finished watching the entire series over the past month or so - the first season on UHD and the second on DVD from Netflix. Absolutely love it.
Not a fan of this Season 3 arrangement. Is "The 101" in HD? (Not that it matters for me, I have Comcast).
If DirecTV has "exclusive" rights, that means the show won't be on iTunes, XBox Live, etc.? And we have to wait 'til February? Boo.
Though, I guess it's better than nothing.
Why is it that all of my favorite shows aren't on until the second half of the season: Lost, 24, American Idol, now FNL. Doesn't anyone want to air anything in the fall anymore?

As MOP said, I'm sure you'll be able to find it before February if you want to.
As for the Fall, sports really screw up the networks schedules during the Fall. World Series on Fox, NFL on Sunday nights on NBC, Sunday shows getting bumped on CBS/Fox because of overruns, ESPN stealing lots of viewers on Monday nights, NFL Network airing games on Thursdays in December, etc. It's just a crazy time to try and get any continuity in your viewership, and the trend is toward running a show straight through rather than sprinkling reruns in here and there.
