I have 2 Series 2 TiVo's hooked up through my router and once about every 3rd week, they suddenly can't see each other to transfer programs and I have to "Restart the TiVo DVR" on both units. They then works for about another 3 weeks and suddenly they can't see each other again. The 3 weeks is approximate. Anyone have any idea whey they keep needing a restart?

They might be getting confused with IP lease expirations/renewal. Try configuring the boxes to use a static IP address. The addresses need to be on the same subnet and outside the range that your router uses to assign DHCP addresses.

My IP address hasn't changed in over a year and also the TiVo's have no trouble getting their schedule information and they seem to see each other but say there is no programming on the other unit where there really is.

If you are using DHCP then the IP address can/will change without your knowledge. The fact that they can connect to the mothership for guide data/software updates really has no bearing on MRV.
My suggestion stands - try static IP addresses and see what happens in 3-4 weeks.

OK I will try it but I am confused.
My 4 port router uses 192.168.0.101 thru .104 for what other stuff is hooked to it. .101 goes to a 4 port switch that the TiVo's are connected to.
So are you saying I should use 192.168.0.105 for the TiVo's and do I use the same number for both or .105 and .106?
What I dont understand is they are now .103 for one and .107 for the other via DHCP but .103 was my wifes computer the last time I checked.
Thanks for your help Rocko

I imagine that the 4 port switch is just a dumb hub that does no actual routing - you just need extra ports beyond the 4 on your router.
If you are going to use static IPs you want to pick addresses outside of the pool that your router uses to dish out DHCP addresses. I'd try 192.168.0.200 and 192.168.0.201 - this assumes that the pool runs from 100 - 150 (or something in that range).

Still having a problem after about 3 weeks again.
Router is set to use Dynamic DHCP Range 100-199
Static DHCP 201 and 202 for the 2 TiVo's
The TiVo's were set to use a static IP address of 201 and 202
Again everything worked fine for about 3 weeks and then the 2 TiVo's couldn't see each other without doing a restart.
Checked the router and TiVo's and all the settings were still correct.

This started happening to some of us after the 9.1 sw update (or whatever the latest rev is, can't remember).
Static IPs, properly set up, working for years, and suddenly you have to reboot one to have it seen for a few minutes by the other.

Has there been any resolution/confirmation of this problem? Is it connected to the latest upgrade?
I am having the same problem at my house as well...although I have to reconnect every 3-4 days not weeks :(
